And the local junkyard has some Pinto's for under $500, but they
wouldn't make good cars any more than simpletech memory would make good
computers.

The basic PC100/8ns memory starts at $48 from Mushkin. These guys have
a stellar reputation for quality -- all the overclockers constantly rave
about them.

PC100-222 memory at $75 for 128 MB will give you greater performance.

for 256 MB at $395 it's a little expensive, and it only works in DDR SDRAM
capable motherboards (newer Athlon), but it's beautiful. I have
centerfolds of this memory on my closet door.
