Only folders that exist on a physical disk can be excluded from scans. Folders such as the My Computer folder and the Control Panel folder are known as shell folders, and these folders cannot be excluded. This is because shell folders cannot be scanned for files.
Note that the Recycle Bin folder is also a shell folder, so files in the recycle bin cannot be excluded by simply excluding the recycle bin folder. However, each disk should have a folder called RECYCLER or Recycled (depending on which version of Windows you are running) in itÆs root folder, and it is this folder that physically contains the files the have been deleted to the recycle bin from that disk. This is the folder you need to exclude if you want to exclude recycled files.
