Personal Information and Course Description

My name is Guy Campbell, welcome to the Advanced Programming in Visual Basic 2010 class. Topics that we will touch on through Projects and Discussions include:

And more!

Recommended Textbook

Not required.

Software Requirements

Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 (professional edition).  You may also use the Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition (which is a free download).

Projects

Each week we will be working on a new Project. You can find all the projects under the CIS-M41 Projects section in Contents. All projects are available as HTML documents (web pages) that you can print. If you are going to be late submitting a project, just let me know ahead of time.  Completing projects on time is VERY important. I'd like to keep everyone talking about the same project each week. For those of you, who are inclined to get ahead, please try to refocus your energy by making extra contributions to our discussions and by adding additional enhancements to your own projects. Everyone should feel free to contribute by asking questions and answering the questions of your fellow students when you feel you can help.

This is a hands-on course. Each week I will provide you with a Project that you must complete by the following week.

Getting a good Grade in this class is based on (listed by priority):

  1. The weekly Projects (Their quality and presentation).
  2. Completing the Project Quzzes online
  3. A final project

Note: Unlike my beginning VB classùand because of their complicated natureùsome of our projects will not require any enhancements to earn maximum points. You will also be required to do a final project that you create (I give no advice on what you choose to do for your final project. Just keep in mind that your final project should be something that you want to do and that you will have fun doing). About half way through our class I will provide you with more specific details about the final project.

On-Line Discussion

Students may participate in our on-line discussion forums each week within the Desire2Learn course shell. There will also be quizzes that must be completed for each project we do in class.

Tests & Grading

The only tests are the projects themselves and the Final project. I expect them to be completed on time (due dates for each project will be specified when they are assigned).
