Blackout Alarm (SCE version 1.06 10/02/01) - (PWP version 1.0 7/24/01)

Blackout Alarm is the brainchild of Terry Wood and Guy Campbell. We both work as IT people in Southern California corporate environments where knowing ahead of time that a blackout is immient could save us tons of downtime.

Southern California Edison

Blackout Alarm periodically checks the Internet and warns you when your Rotating Outage Group code appears on the Southern California Edison Rotating Outages Information web page, where impending power outages are listed daily. You can enter up to 14 different Rotating Outage Group codes into Blackout Alarm--Edison customers can find their Rotating Outage Group code on the front of their SCE bill, next to the Service Account number. Summary Bill customers will find this information in the "Details" portion of their bill.

Other features include support for a Net Send message up to 128 characters long--on Windows NT or 2000 networks only--which is automatically transmitted to your entire domain if an eminent blackout is detected. You can set the interval that Blackout Alarm checks the SCE Rotating Outages website, from once every 30 seconds to once every 30 minutes.

Blackout Alarm is easy to use. After installing the program, just put a shortcut to it in your Start folder so that it is launched automatically anytime you login. Click here to download the SCE version of Blackout Alarm.

Pasadena Water & Power
I have also created a Pasadena Water & Power version of Blackout Alarm which will only work with PWP customers.  You can download it here.
