What am I supposed to do with the Scribe's rocks?

Hint 1 of 8:

Look at the rocks in inventory.  They must be important, but they're so
dirty.

Is there any water nearby?

Hint 3 of 8:

Wash them in the statue fountain.

Hint 4 of 8:

Assemble the stone pieces into runes.  Each rune is three tiles high.

Hint 5 of 8:

Look for a line on the bottom pieces of each assembled rune to determine the
rune order.

Hint 6 of 8:

They must be in a specific order from left to right.

Hint 7 of 8:

Jim will physically copy the runes into his notebook when you have done this
correctly.
