RISC World

DiscWorld

Aaron Timbrell rounds up the software directory

It's back to normality for DiscWorld this issue, as we are once again including a full commercial product...

Speech2 - worth £28.00

Speech2 is a software voice synthesiser for RISC OS computers. The original version of Speech was developed for the BBC and featured on television, even appearing on Saturday Superstore. Speech even got immortalised in vinyl. Did you know that Roger Water's LP Radio Chaos features vocals created on Speech? There is even a credit on the album for someone operating a Master128!

Speech2 gives your computer a voice. Your computer can read out documents to you simply by dragging them to the Speech icon on the iconbar. You can even use the Speech module in your own programs. Speech requires no extra hardware and is compatible with RISC OS 3.1 or later, although Iyonix users will have to run it via Aemulor. This is the full final release version of Speech2 and includes programs for editing and adding to the main dictionary. You can even make Speech sing, an impressive feat that few modern voice synthesisers can manage on other operating systems.

Speech is copyright Superior Software and must not be reproduced without their written permission. The main manual for Speech is reproduced in this issue of RISCWorld and can be found from the main index page.

The complete DiscWorld line up

As per usual we have our collections of the latest RISC OS games and applications, as well as support files for this issues articles. So the full DiscWorld line up looks something like this:

Dworks

A copy of DrawWorksXE and upgrade patches for older copies of DrawWorksXL.

Games

All the games from this issues games world column.

PD

All the latest PD, shareware and freeware releases from the PD column.

Speech

A full version of Speech from Superior Software.

VirtualAcorn

Support files for floppy disc sharing.

Windows

Programs for use under Windows.

ToolBox

This contains two sets of Toolbox Modules. The Castle archive contains the latest 26/32 bit neutral system components, required if you want to run a lot of new software releases on 26bit machines (ie. anything that isn't an Iyonix). The RISCOS Ltd archive contains later and improved versions of a number of modules and is suitable for all versions of RISC OS from 3.1 onwards.
