May 20, 1994 HEATBAL.EXE (for 386 w/coprocessor, or HEATBALX.EXE for 8088 w/no coprocessor) is an interactive simulator model of the Boston Edison Pilgrim Nuclear Station seconday steam plant located on Massachusetts Bay in Plymouth, Mass. It is based on actual secondary plant design parameters. Run the program and view the help files for more information. The source code for HEATBAL is included for the curious. A known bug occurs when changing variables too far out of the normal parameter range. It's not worth fixing the algorithms, just try a alt-c to reset the parameters, otherwise restart the program. Of course if you are running multiple DOS sessions under OS/2 like you ought to be, it will be no problem. Second best would be multitasking under Novell DOS 7, or at least taskswapping under DR DOS 6. There will be no excuses boys and girls. BECIRC3.EXE (for 386 w/coprocessor or BECIRC3X.EXE for 8088 w/no coprocessor) is included to demonstrate the same program, but as a non-interactive model. No documentation is included for it. A few of the default parameters are in brackets when the program is run. Any serious questions about modifying the program for another plant can be directed to me.
