New Generation Consoles to cost more.

Due to the instability of the Yen, new generation consoles, such as the Sony Play Station and Sega Saturn will, inevitably, cost punters more.

Grey imports (imported machines without an official distributor) of both machines can cost anything up to £800. Both machines were initially supposed to retail at around £300.


Octamed Upgrade

Computer Software Publishers have announced the release of V6.0 of OctaMED. Registered UK owners of V5.0 can upgrade at a price of £25 or £20 without the manual. EC users will pay a smidgeon more at £28 or £23 without the manual. Rest of the world users will have to pay £30 or £25 without the manual.

Off Planet Take Dr T's

Nottingham-based, Off Planet Media, have taken over distribution of the Dr T's Music Software product line. Existing Dr T users can contact them for Technical Support and upgrades.

3M Disks Getting Tougher

3M have announced the release of a 3.5-inch 2Mb "Go anywhere" diskette. The disks are hailed as reducing static build up by 40 per cent over conventional disks, and are claimed to be 95 per cent more resistant to fungus and mould, and they use a lower torque design which, 3M claim, leads to greater disk drive efficiency. ProCD of Danvers Massachusetts is challenging British Telecom's right to copyright its listings of British telephone numbers.

BT's lawyers are relying on the 1988 Copyright, Designs And Patents Act to block ProCD from selling a scanned CD-ROM of the numbers.
