Ben says: The most recent film I have seen was ID4 - Independence Day. While it won't win any prizes for originality - at one point I really thought they were going to kill the aliens with germs, just like War of the Worlds - it is a fine movie in terms of its effects sequences, especially when you consider that Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin brought the movie in for under $70m. As a result expect to see plenty more sci-fi epics coming from Hollywood, at least until the first turkey, at which point they'll go off the whole idea again and try to resurrect some other genre, like the western, again.

Fi says: Who does he think he is? Barry Normal? Anyway what I think is "What a tops film" Who gives a shit whether the story actually had a story? Just give me Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum in their flying suits any day of the week!! To be honest my mate Wend' and I could even be persuaded to find Randy Quaid attractive in a flying suit. Thinking about it we'd probably find any bloke attractive in a flying suit. Depending on the number of pockets of course. Are we really that sad? I think we are.

What other people have to say about Independence Day:

Neil Mohr says: This is the first film I've seen since Train Spotting so that shows just how much I get out, anyway I was expecting a film with loads of big flashy effects and that's just what you get. A few people said the second half gets a little too 'Americans are great', but I don't think so, anyway America is great and I want to live there.....

Actings alright, Will Smith is pretty funny, got a great bird, nice silicon breasts, humans come up against insurmountable odds, and win, as usual
