To add a texture to an object, you can do it in one of two ways.

     Firstly, select your object, and then go to edit>>material selection.
     pick your material and click OK.

     Secondly, bring up the object manager (press V), select your object,
     and then click on the Material button. Pick your material and click
     OK.
