If after 30 days you decide you like it incredibly, (and you will) support the artist and convince him to produce more, by registering. This game was written for VGA, 80 columns, and a 486. You may experience trouble running it on different systems. DISCLAIMER ---------- First of all, while Nibbles 2 is obviously a sequel to Nibbles, it is completely separate from it. The programming for Nibbles 2 was all done by myself, and nothing was copied from the original Nibbles (except Jake and Sammy), so sue me. Nibbles 2 has no connection with any other programs in production, by any company other than Reapersoft Inc. THE STORY --------- Nibbles was the story of a contest between Sammy the Snake and Jake the Cobra. The contest consisted of determining who could eat more numbers without crashing into a wall. Jake was brutally defeated, and was left humiliated while Sammy gained world recognition. Nibbles 2 is the story of Jake's Revenge. Sammy was lying at home, eating supper, when Jake paid him a visit. Sammy had grown quite fat after winning the tournament, assuming that what he won in the tournament would leave him set for. Because of this, Jake easily subdued him and brought him over to an island fortress. There, Sammy was thrown into a glutton's nightmare: a huge labyrinth with a limited food supply. Sammy must eat at least nine boxes of Snake Chow every sixty seconds, or he will faint from hunger. To make matters worse, Jake has set up his labyrinth in such a way that Sammy will lose sight of his food as he nears the exit. Fortunately, Sammy has developed a radar sense to help him locate his chow boxes. Sammy requires all of his wits to escape, and the rest is up to you! THE GAME -------- The controls for Nibbles 2 are the same as Nibbles: arrow keys Player 2 has the following controls: W - Up A - left S - Down D - Right The radar in the top right corner of the screen is quite simple to use. When both the vertical and horizontal bar are in the middle of the rectangles, the snake will be directly on top of the chow box. The TimeLimit is also quite self-explanatory. You start with 60 seconds, and for every nine food boxes you get an extra fifteen seconds. In 2 player mode, the time works differently, but is also quite simple. When a message appears on the screen, SPACE clears it. "P" pauses the game. TYPES OF GAMES -------------- Before you play, the game prompts you with several checkboxes. "Y" fills the boxes, while "N" leaves them blank. New Level - This option appears only if you have registered. It allows you to play a self-made level. Enter a non-existing filename to play a blank level Progressive Game - This is the true game. Every time you pass a level, the game gets a little bit harder. The last level is a maze. Can you find your way out? Time Limit - This decides whether or not to put a time limit on your game Radar - Checking either of these boxes enables that type of radar Show Food - Decides whether or not to display the food boxes Correct - Press "Y" if you have filled the correct boxes You are also asked several questions: Start Level Constructor? Appears only if you have registered. Starts the level constructor if you press "Y". Goes on if you press "N" Snake Speed: Unlike Nibbles, snakespeeds are reversed. The higher number you enter, the slower the snake goes. Slowdown Rate: Some machines are faster than others. This option allows people with fast machines to play the game at a reasonable pace, while those with slow machines don't have really slow programs. The higher the number you enter, the slower the game will run. You will have to experiment with this a bit to figure out your machine's Slowdown Rate. Number of Players: Appears only for those who have registered. If you don't know what this means, you shouldn't be playing the game. REGISTRATION ------------ Registration gains you the following benefits - 2 Player mode - The full-color level creator - A clear conscience - Gets rid of that annoying 'Register Today' message To register, follow the instructions shown as you exit the game. The following portion of the manual is about the level creator, available to those who register. To contact the author via Internet send E-Mail to: abe8@educ.ucalgary.ca or mcleand@abe.cbe.ab.ca THE LEVEL CREATOR ----------------- To start the level creator, press "Y" when asked Start Level Constructor? Type a new or existing filename when prompted. If the file exists, the level is drawn in a yellow border. If you type a new file, a yellow border will be drawn. Pressing the arrow keys moves a block around. This is your paintbrush. The keys 'A' and 'Z' cycle through the available colors. Press SPACE to fill in the square, or DEL to erase a filled in square. When you are satisfied with your level, press Q, and the computer will save it for you. The game then continues. Distributed Internationally by McLean Enterprises, (c)1994.
