SCSI VideoCD &
MPEG-1 decoder

 The SMD-100 is the new VideoCD and MPEG-1 decoder from HiSoft Systems. The decoder can be used as either a stand-alone unit connected to a SCSI CD-ROM or as a device in a chain of SCSI peripherals. As the stand-alone unit, the SMD-100 can be connected to any TV/Video with a SCART, composite or SVHS socket to produce crystal-clear playback of VideoCD films in 24bit colour and 16bit stereo sound. As a SCSI peripheral, the SMD-100 becomes an indispensable addition to your computer, allowing playback of MPEG and VideoCD files from any PC, Mac or Amiga that is equipped with a SCSI port.

Compatibility

  • Decodes VideoCD 1.1 & 2.0, Karaoke CD 1.0, OM-1 and CD-I Green Book standards using a SCSI CD-ROM that supports VideoCD.
  • Supports display resolutions of 352 x 240 at 30 Hz, 352 x 288 at 25 Hz and 384 x 240 at 24 Hz.
  • Decodes and displays still images with coded resolutions up to 704 x 576 while decoding MPEG audio streams.
  • Accepts a constant input rate of up to 2.8 Mbits per second.
  • Compatible with both PAL or NTSC discs.

Controls

  • All display and playback functions controlled from an Infra red remote control.
  • CD-ROM controls include play, pause, fast-forward, rewind, track select, output signal select (RGB, composite or SVHS) and standby.
  • Can be controlled from a SCSI-equipped computer using suitable software.

  • Includes two SCSI-2 50-way amphenol connectors to allow easy integration in a chain of SCSI devices.
  • SCSI-ID selector supporting IDs 0 to 7.
  • Termination on/off switch.

Audio Output

  • Stereo output via a suitable SCART cable allows direct connection to an amplifier or surround sound processor.
  • 16bit 44.1kHz audio.
  • Bitstream� DACs.

Video Output

  • 24bit RGB, composite video and SVHS (using additional lead) output using 21 pin Euro/SCART connector.
  • Built-in RGB genlocking capabilities for use with 15kHz computer genlocking systems.
  • Automatic scaling of output of both PAL and NTSC using either PAL or NTSC discs.
  • Uses SCART auto-switching signals.
