A Resource About Pharmaceutical Research on Breast Cancer ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ America's pharmaceutical research companies are currently developing 37 medicines for the prevention or treatment of breast cancer, according to a new publication released by the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PMA). The 20 page publication, titled "Pharmaceutical Frontiers: Research on Breast Cancer" is the second in the PMA's "Pharmaceutical Frontiers" series. Of the 37 medicines being developed, involving 19 companies and the National Cancer Institute, 24 are being developed to inhibit or suppress tumor growth, 8 are to destroy cancer cells in the breast and 2 are to cause a reduction in the extent of the tumor. The publication also contains statistics about breast cancer and patient support information provided by the American Cancer Society, The National Cancer Institute, CancerCare, and the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations.
