A Resource About Childhood Accident Prevention ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Accidents are a leading cause of child injury and death, but, with proper precautions, many can be prevented. For example falls can be minimized and avoided by: Repairing uneven or broken steps; replacing or removing loose carpeting; making sure that rugs have non-skid backings in place; installing child-proof gates at the tops and bottoms of stairs; and recognizing that poorly built or improperly fitted window screens may not be strong enough to keep a child from falling through windows. These and other tips on preventing childhood accidents in the car, on the water and involving poison, fire, choking, sleep, guns, knives and bicycles are discussed in a free brochure offered to the public by Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. A copy of "Accident Prevention: A Family Guide to Child Safety" is available by sending a stamped self-addressed, business size envelope to: Accident Prevention, Baylor College of Medicine, Room 176B, One Baylor Plaza, Houston, Texas 77030.
