A Resource About Rett Syndrome Foundation ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Several times each year I find a letter from a reader with a child suffering from Rett Syndrome and plea to write about the International Rett Syndrome Foundation (IRSA). Rett Syndrome is a very rare neurological condition that only strikes young girls, first described in 1965, severely affecting their development. Since, I could find little to write about, I usually passed over the question. However according to Ms. Kathy Hunter, President of IRSA "based upon population estimates performed in other countries there may be 10,000 undiagnosed cases in the U.S." and that perhaps it is the cause of "1/4 of all profound mental retardation in young females". That requires some attention. You may obtain more information from IRSA, 8511 Rose Marie Drive, Fort Washington Drive, Fort Washington MD 20744 for a stamped self addressed envelope. ---------------- The material contained here is "FOR INFORMATION ONLY" and should not replace the counsel and advice of your personal physician.
