What is "Electro-Ejaculation"?

QUESTION:  I suffer from an inability to complete the sex act because I can
not ejaculate.  I over heard a conversation about a new procedure that uses an
electric shock that helps, but was too embarrassed to ask.  Do you know
anything about this?

ANSWER:  It is difficult to interpret the conversation you over heard from
your letter, but it is possible that they might have been talking about a
process called "electro-ejaculation".  This method is utilized to obtain sperm
from men who are unable to ejaculate, which can be used in artificial
insemination procedures for their wives.  It is a method long used in
veterinary medicine.  An electrical probe is inserted into the rectum, and an
electrical impulse is used to produce the contractions necessary to expel the
semen.  This semen is then preserved and concentrated and used for
insemination.  It is not a procedure than can be used to aid in intercourse,
and is useful in humans for those individuals whose inability to complete the
sex act is due neurological problems that can be caused by spinal cord injury,
multiple sclerosis or advanced diabetes mellitus, as well as other conditions.
