Rowland Scherman's camera captures
the enduring legacy of the King!

In 1991, I photographed and published a book called Elvis is Everywhere. The people who published it (Clarkson-Potter) and the few fans who saw it thought it was great...and so would have the rest of the world except for one thing: the day Elvis is Everywhere hit the stands, the very day this book would have perhaps ushered in the renaissance of meaningful, beautiful, photojournalistic books -- was the SAME DAY that then President Bush blew chunks all over the Emperor of Japan. All the networks forgot that it was Elvis' birthday and a neat new book honoring him had just been published. They thought, wrongly, that the story of barfing Bush was more important to the welfare of the universe.

Anyway, soon after that came the beginning of Desert Storm -- and who would buy a charming, diverting little Elvis book when one didn't know whether the whole world was about to explode? Hardly anyone, is the apparent answer. However, all that foolishness has passed; the internet is global -- and I always thought that our overseas brothers and sisters would enjoy and understand this book even more, perhaps, than the domestic Elvis freaks. Now everyone can access Elvis is Everywhere, and they should.

For Elvis is Everywhere isn't really a book about Elvis -- it's a book about us...all of us. The King of Rock and Roll passed through here, and this is my interpretation, of what (and how) Elvis left us.

So, for those who missed the book its first time around, original Elvis is Everywhere photos will be brought to this page; then those who fancy them can download them for free, and if they like them and want to see the whole thing, order the book.

This is one of my favorites of the photographs from Elvis is Everywhere, EP is "counting the house" at the Graceland ticket window:

Here's another. A French boy I met in Memphis with a great EP tatoo:

Here's yet another. EP looking out a window in NYC as I was explaining to the publisher what this book was about:

I'll be back on this page in a while with some new images from Elvis is Everywhere; if you like them and wish to order the book, here's how to contact me:
