Cataloging Existing Pictures

To catalog selected pictures on the computer hard disk:

1. Click the button or select Import… from the File menu.

2. Navigate to the desired location and select pictures.

The following options are available:
Include sub folders: Check this option to copy all folders under the selected folder.
Copy original files: Select this option to copy the selected files to the folder selected in the “Transfer Destination” tab of the “Transfer Options” dialog.
Options…: Click this button to display the “Rename Photos” tab of the “Transfer Options” dialog, where you can choose how pictures will be named in PictureProject (if Copy original files is selected, file names can also be changed). Any changes will also be reflected in the “Rename Photos” tab of the “Options” (“Preferences”) dialog.

3. Click Import (Windows) or Choose (Macintosh) to catalog the selected pictures. The newly-cataloged pictures will be displayed in the PictureProject picture list.

Folders and Collections
A collection is created for each source folder that contains pictures. Any sub-folders are listed as collections inside a folder with the same name as the source folder. For example, if pictures are imported from the “2004” folder in “My Pictures,” the pictures will be cataloged in a “2004” collection at the top level of the collection list. If the “2004” folder also contains an “April” sub-folder, the pictures will be cataloged in an “April” collection inside a folder named “2004.”

Cataloged Pictures
Pictures that have been deleted, moved, or renamed in Windows Explorer or the Finder after they have been cataloged are displayed with a “?” icon in the picture list and can no longer be viewed in PictureProject. To recatalog pictures that have been moved or renamed or remove deleted pictures from the picture list, double-click the “?” icon.
