In 7th December 1975, East Timor was invaded by the indonesian army. The United Nations didn't acnowledge the annexation, demanding since then a truly fair solution towards the self-determination of the timorese. Indonesian soldiers

In 12th November 1991, at the burial of a young east timorese killed by the indonesian army, at the Santa Cruz cemetery, about 250 people were killed with the shots of the M16. These TV minutes were fundamental to call the public attention to the atrocities commited in this territory. With this event, the indonesian army strengthened even more the persecutions and arrests, and in 20th November Xanana Gusmão, the timorese resistance leader, was arrested in Dili. The timorese fight is equated by the Nobel commitee to other fair fights such as the ones in Tibete, Guatemala and Birmania.

Despite these positive signs, the fight for freedom in East Timor isn't finished. It is necessary that in the whole world, the supporters of Peace and of Human Rights, mobilize in order for their countries to pressure Indonesia to Free East Timor.
