About text-only popups

A text-only popup is specially formatted topic text that displays information in a popup window when clicked. This is not a true link because the popup window only displays text — not topics or Web pages. At the same time you format the topic text as a "hotspot," you also enter the text that users read in the popup window.

Text-only popups are useful if you want to provide a little extra detail about information in a topic without displaying it in the content. Users who want to know more can click the hotspot to read the text. They click anywhere on the screen to close it.

Popup windows size to fit the content, accommodate up to 255 characters, and only support text (not images, related topics, Dynamic HTML, etc.). You can format the text to use a specific font, font size, and color, as well as change the margins and the background color of the popup window.

Note: You can create a link that displays an HTML topic in a popup window. For further information, see Opening links in popup windows.
