There are two parts to keyword links — the keywords in the index and the keyword link controls. Keyword links point users to other topics based on keywords they might look up in the online index. They bring up a list of topics on the same or a related subject.
Keyword link controls are the links (clickable objects) in topics that take users to the topics that reference the keywords. When you add a keyword link control to a topic, you select the keywords you want to use with the control. When users click the control, they see a list of topics that reference the keywords. They can select any topic to open it, like this:
Implementing keyword links is a process that involves the following:
Adding keywords to topics: The topics need to be indexed in order to select keywords and assign them to the controls.
Planning: Anticipate how users will benefit from using keyword links. Then identify topics that use certain keywords appropriate for the link. Your strategy is to group related topics that reference these keywords.
Providing keyword link navigation: Determine where users need to access keyword links — identify topics that should related to other topics based on keywords they share. Then add keyword link controls to the topics by assigning the keywords.
Users do not see the keywords when they select the control. Rather, they see a list of topics that reference the keyword. They also can access these same keywords from your online index, although they will search for them in a completely different way, in any order they need.
