Moving folders

Use the Project Manager to move custom folders in and out of other folders. Whenever you move a folder, all the files contained in it are updated to reflect the new path. If you have subfolders within folders, you can move the subfolders to other levels in the hierarchy to alter their arrangement in your project.

Custom folders are displayed in the Project Manager with a folder icon and are organized in a hierarchical fashion to indicate that a folder stores other folders and files.

WARNING! Avoid using the Windows Explorer to move folders because the Project Manager does not update the file references. This can result in broken links, missing images in topics, etc. Paths are not automatically updated if you do not move the folders inside the program. For further information, see Safeguarding your work.

To move a folder:

  1. Click the Project tab.

  2. Open the folder that contains the subfolder to move.

  3. Select the subfolder, and then and drag and drop it to its new destination.

Tips:

  • You can also move folders in and out of hierarchies by clicking the left and right arrow buttons on the Project toolbar. Each click moves the folder in or out one level in the hierarchy.

  • By default, you see your custom folders in HTML Files (Topics), Images, Multimedia, Style Sheets, and Baggage Files, regardless of whether they contain any files. For information about changing folder views, see Viewing empty folders.
