Assigning triggers

To launch DHTML effects using triggers, you first need to assign the trigger to text or an image in your topic. The trigger text or image becomes clickable, and when clicked, initiates the DHTML effect you assign to the corresponding target. Next, you need to link the trigger to the desired target (text or image). You can only connect triggers to targets if they reside in the same topic.

To assign a trigger:

  1. Select the item (for example, a word, phrase, or image) you want to assign as the trigger.

  2. On the DHTML menu, click Make Trigger. A trigger icon appears next to the selected item, and the selected text or image is shaded with hash marks .

Notes:

  • Although the mouse pointer changes to a hand when moved over a trigger, you may want to further alert your users that a topic item is clickable. You can do this with text by adding color and underlining the word or phrase. If the clickable item is an image, you may want to add a line of text telling the user where to click.

  • You can set a first trigger activation and a second trigger activation. For example, you can set a trigger so that the first time users click on it an image flies in (first activation) and the second time they click on it the image flies out (second activation).
