Adding Dynamic HTML to topics

Dynamic HTML (DHTML) combines the capabilities of both multimedia and scripting to create visual effects and 3-D effects.

Note: Dynamic HTML effects require Internet Explorer 4.0 or later (if they are used as part of a style, they require Internet Explorer 5.0 or later). Dynamic HTML effects are not supported by Netscape Navigator.

To add Dynamic HTML to a topic:

  1. Open the topic in the WYSIWYG Editor and determine which element you want to enhance with Dynamic HTML.

Tip: An easy way to ensure that you apply the DHTML effect to exactly the right topic element is by using the Tag List.

  1. From the DHTML menu, select Insert/Edit Dynamic HTML Effects. The DHTML Effects dialog opens.

  2. From the When list, select the event that will initiate the effect. The arrow indicates your selection. (In this example, trigger activation has been selected. For more information about this option, see About Triggers and Targets.)

  3. From the What list, select the effect you want to apply. The selected effect's properties and values are displayed in the lower part of the dialog.

  4. From the Settings list, designate the property values you want to use with the special effect. For some property values, you can select the setting you want from a drop-down list. For other property values, you need to enter the desired setting.

The applied DHTML effect is indicated by hash marks, as shown in this illustration:
