Edit Map IDs dialog

Use the Edit Map IDs dialog to create aliases for window-level Help topics.

Topic ID: Displays the topic ID to use with the alias.

Map #: Displays the topic ID's corresponding map number. For automatic map numbering that uses <Project Map File> or a custom map file, this field displays (Auto) to indicate that the program is automatically assigning map numbers to topic IDs, starting with 1. If the project includes several map files and 1 is already used, (Auto) assigns the lowest possible number.

Map File: Displays a list of available map files to select for creating aliases. All imported map files are available from this list.

Topic ID/Map #: Lists the topic IDs and map numbers contained in the selected map file. If <Project Map File>, authors enter topic IDs in the Topic ID field and this list is automatically updated to display both the topic ID and map number. (A Map ID is the combination of a topic ID and its corresponding map number.)

Tips:

  • The icons used with the topic IDs are color-coded to indicate if they are used as an alias. Blue icons are aliased. Yellow icons are not aliased.

  • Pause the mouse over any item at this list to view the name of the .HTM file (window-level Help topic) that is matched with the topic ID.

: Opens the New Map File dialog for creating new (custom) map files or importing existing map files into the project. For custom map files, map numbers are auto-numbered starting with 1, or the lowest possible number.

Tip: Edit the text in Map # to manually change the map number.

Topic: Displays the name of the HTML file assigned to the alias.

All Folders: Drop-down list for selecting custom folders to filter the list of available topics. All Folders is the default.

Assign: Creates a new alias or updates an existing one. This button is only available when a topic, topic ID, and map number are selected.

Unassign: Removes the selected alias from the project by unassigning an Alias/Topic ID from a window-level Help topic.

Properties: Shows all aliases that exist for the selected window-level Help topic.

Preview: Displays the selected Help topic in a preview window.
