What are some of the applications that will take advantage of my Wicked3D product's features?

Any title that properly utilizes Direct3D, OpenGL, or GLIDE should take advantage of your Wicked3D cards features. However, the Wicked3D featuring Voodoo2 does not perform 3D acceleration in a window.

I can’t get sound through my monitor’s speakers.

There is an issue with certain Compaq monitors and all current Voodoo2 cards. Compaq monitors with the built-in volume controls have a conflict with Voodoo2 boards which disables the monitor's volume control. The Compaq monitor is using a nonstandard mechanism to control the volume. The combination will still work and you can still use Window's software volume controls, but it's something to keep in mind if you have this type of monitor.

Setting Higher resolutions

How to set up Quake2 or Unreal to run in 1024x672 or 1024x1024 (in SLI):

  1. Go to Glide Properties by clicking on the Glide button on the Metabyte Wicked3D Display Properties Sheet.
  2. Click on the Wrapper tab.
  3. Choose "Force Selected Video Mode" in the Video Mode Selection.
  4. Choose 1024x672 or 1024x1024 (SLI Only) using the Video Mode slider bar.
  5. Choose Use Glide Wrapper for Glide Games in Original Glide Options.
  6. For Quake2, choose "3Dfx OpenGL" as your video option. For Unreal, just launch the game using 3Dfx as your rendering device.

Note: The in-game resolution controls are overridden by our Re2Flex drivers. You can still use them to change the size of the text, status bars, etc. (lower resolution for larger text, higher resolution for smaller text) The actual game resolution will be the resolution selected in using our control panel.

Note2: You cannot use the OpenGL settings to run Quake2 unless you have the H3D stereo hardware. Unfortunately, this means that you won't get the cool laser sight. (Maybe in a future release)

Note3: Do NOT enable stereo support unless you have H3D stereo glasses. If you see 2 identical images, one on top of the other, you are running in stereo without the required hardware. Installing the H3D hardware will combine these two images into a stereo image viewable with the glasses.

Games using GLIDE Interface

Some games may install an older version of GLIDE (version 2.5 is required for Voodoo2). These applications need to have the older version of the glide2x.dll renamed to something else, or deleted, so the application can make use of the glide2x.dll in the \windows\system directory. A future version of Voodoo2 drivers will incorporate a mechanism for helping users to remove older versions of Glide on Voodoo2 based systems to help address this problem.

Application update requirements

There will be instances that application updates are needed to correct an issue. Please check the website of the software publisher to see if there are any patches or updates for the title in question.

"Old" Glide Apps

Some applications make use of older versions of Glide (version 2.1 or lower) which are not compatible with the Voodoo2 chip. Some titles may, however, work with a unique combination of environment variables.

Voodoo2 transitional environment variables

Older Voodoo Graphics-specific games based on Glide versions 2.1 or below are not officially supported to be able run on Voodoo2. However, many of these games will run properly with the following environment variables set:

  • set SST_GRXCLK=90
  • set SST_FT_CLK_DEL=0x4
  • set SST_TF0_CLK_DEL=0x6
  • set SST_TF1_CLK_DEL=0x6
  • set SST_VIN_CLKDEL=0x1
  • set SST_VOUT_CLKDEL=0x0
  • set SST_TMUMEM_SIZE=2

What about "old" Voodoo Graphics environment variables?

Don't worry about the old environment variables, as all the Voodoo2 environment variables are now prefaced with "sstv2_". Old Voodoo Graphics environment variables will have no affect on Voodoo2 functionality.

I can’t get WickedVision to run since I copied Stereo.cfg and Glide2x.dll into Unreal and/or Quake system directory.

These instructions are a hold-over from an earlier revision of the driver, and no longer apply. Simply remove Stereo.cfg and Glide2x.dll from the game’s system directory.

Multiple versions of Glide

Many applications install copies of the glide2x.dll locally in the same directory as the game executable.Voodoo2 requires Glide version 2.5 or later, so many of these applications that have other (older) copies of Glide in the game executable directory will attempt to use the older version of Glide and fail. One way to check and see if there are stray Glide DLLs hanging around is to do something like "c:>dir /s glide*.DLL" from a dos command line and remove all extra glide DLL's, or rename them to something like glide2x.old. 3Dfx suggests doing this for all disks and partitions in the system. That way, the application will default to using the new, Glide 2.5 in the \windows\system directory. You can also use the "Find "command from the Windows Start menu to accomplish the same task of finding old versions of Glide DLLs.

When can we expect a Glide with strips and fan support?

Glide 3.0 is schedule for release in mid-year, and includes full support for strips and fans.

Why does my screenshot function fail in Quake II?

There is a bug in the current miniGL driver which causes this. It will be fixed in the next release of the miniGL driver.

How do I get Hexen II to run in 1024 x 768 mode on my Too2 WickedTM configuration?

Append "-width 1024 -height 768" to the glh2.exe command line used to launch the game. Be sure you have the latest miniGL driver in the same directory as the glh2.exe executable, and that the file is named opengl32.dll. You can use the Quake2 3Dfx miniGL file, just copy it to the Hexen II directory and rename it opengl32.dll (it should be version 1.1 or later).

Does Shadow Warrior work?

Some users have found that Shadow Warrior only works if run from DOS.
