The Apple Open Collaboration Environment (AOCE) consists of PowerTalk system software and PowerShare collaboration servers. AOCE provides mail, messaging, catalog services, digital signatures, and authentication services to Mac OS applications. AOCE is not supported in system software starting with Mac OS 8. |

AppleTalk Manager
The AppleTalk Manager supports communication with networked computers via the AppleTalk protocol. The AppleTalk Manager is not supported in Carbon. Note that you can use Open Transport instead of the AppleTalk Manager to implement networking features based on AppleTalk protocols. |

Color Manager
The Color Manager assists Color QuickDraw in mapping your application's color requests to the actual colors available. Most applications never need to call the Color Manager directly. |

Cyberdog is a modular architecture for integrating existing and future network protocols and services into a unified experience for the Internet user. Cyberdog is not supported in Carbon. |

Data Access Manager
The Data Access Manager allows applications to communicate with a database or other data source without knowing specific details about the data source to be queried. The Data Access Manager is not supported in Carbon. |

Digital Signature Manager
The Digital Signature Manager allows your application to attach signatures to files. The Digital Signature Manager is part of AOCE, which is not supported in system software starting with Mac OS 8.

MacTCP
MacTCP is a control panel that enables a computer running the Mac OS to communicate with other computers using the TCP/IP protocol. MacTCP is not supported in Carbon. |

MIDI Manager
The MIDI Manager is obsolete and no longer supported. MIDI (the Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is a standard protocol for sending audio data and commands to digital devices. If you are writing MIDI software and need timing, synchronization, and communication services, you may wish to investigate the Open Music System from Opcode Systems, Inc. QuickTime also provides certain MIDI services, such as the ability to play standard MIDI files. |

OpenDoc
OpenDoc is a cross-platform technology that replaces conventional applications with user-assembled groups of software components. OpenDoc allows users to create virtually any kind of custom software solution. OpenDoc is not supported in Carbon. |

QuickDraw GX
QuickDraw GX provides an advanced imaging framework that combines color, graphics, fonts, text, and printing. Apple discontinued support for QuickDraw GX printing as of Mac OS 8 but maintained support for other QuickDraw GX technologies. Mac OS 8.5 is the last Mac OS release that will support any QuickDraw GX technologies.
Apple is introducing Apple Type Services for Unicode Imaging (ATSUI) to replace QuickDraw GX's text rendering features. ATSUI enables the rendering of Unicode text using many of the same high-quality typography capabilities proivided by QuickDraw GX. Apple recommends that GX developers transition to ATSUI at their first opportunity. |

Standard File Package
Your application can use the Standard File Package to manage the human interface for naming and identifying files. The Standard File Package displays the dialog boxes that let the user specify the names and locations of files to be saved or opened, and it reports the user’s choices to your application. The Standard File Package is superseded by Navigation Services in Carbon. |

Telephone Manager
The Telephone Manager provides a programming interface for telephony services on the Macintosh computers. Your application can use the Telephone Manager to provide features such as screen-based telephony and answering machine services. The Telephone Manager is not supported in Carbon. |
