Registering Your Software

To register your software, please complete your registration information in the dialog box that opens when you first run the program after installation. You must register your copy of the software in order to receive customer support and product information.

Installation and Software Usage Notice

  1. Before installing PowerProducer, check your system resources in order to obtain optimal performance.
  2. In order to avoid compatibility issues, please close all other software and utility applications (including virus scans and instant messaging software) during installation and when running the program.
  3. To obtain optimal performance, enable the DMA setting for your hard drive and CD/DVD burning drive. To enable the DMA setting, open the Control Panel, double-click System, then click the Hardware tab. Click the Device Manager button, then open the IDE/ATAPI controllers option. Double-click Secondary IDE Channel, then click the Advanced Settings tab. In the Transfer Mode drop-down box, choose DMA if available.
  4. Smart Video Rendering Technology (SVRT): For SVRT to achieve its optimal rendering performance, the video clips on your Storyboard should be using the same recording profile. And if global effects, such as Master Audio or Master Watermark are applied to the final movie, the SVRT rendering option will be disabled.
  5. Burning issues: If PowerProducer fails to detect your installed burning drive, please check our web site or call our tech support. We will have updates for supporting the latest burning drives.
  6. Microsoft DirectX 9 runtime library must be installed in advance. Microsoft DirectX 9 runtime library must be installed in order for certain functions to run properly. The CD setup program will automatically install the DirectX 9 runtime library. However, if you purchase the Internet download version or the free trial version, you must download this module from the Microsoft Web site or from other Web locations. Microsoft DirectX 9 can be found at the Microsoft DirectX 9 download page: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx?url=/windows/directx/downloads/default.htm
  7. OHCI (Open Host Controller Interface) support: PowerProducer supports the OHCI standard providing Microsoft Windows with a standardized way of interacting with the IEEE1394 port or I/O card so that it is unnecessary to install any other additional drivers when capturing DV video with PowerProducer.
  8. Hard disk requirements when using non real-time DV capturing: PowerProducer will use hard disk as the buffering space to transcode the DV content captured into MPEG-1/MPEG-2 compliant video files. It is highly recommended to have sufficient free disk space before conducting non real-time DV capturing.

Special Requirements for DV Capturing

  1. Minimum CPU requirements when Capturing Video from Analog Video Devices or Using Real-Time Mode:

Capturing Profile Analog Device Capture DV Capture in Real-time
    Burning DVD
Long Play (LP) Pentium III 700 K7 600 Pentium IV 2.2G Athlon XP 2200+
Stdard Play (SP) Pentium III 733 K7 600 Pentium IV 2.2G Athlon XP 2200+
High Quality (HQ) Pentium III 800 K7 700 Pentium IV 2.2G Athlon XP 2200+
    Burning VCD
    Stdard Play (SP) Pentium III 533 K6-2 550 Pentium III 800 K7 700
    Burning SVCD
High Quality (HQ) Pentium III 733 K7 600 Pentium IV 1.4G Athlon XP 1.2G
  2. Minimum CPU Requirements when Capturing Video from DV in Non Real-Time Mode:

Non real-time mode uses buffering technology to avoid frame-drop when capturing video from DV, which greatly reduces CPU resources. We recommend having at least a Pentium III 450 CPU to conduct non real-time capturing from DV, as it is necessary to capture full raw frames before compressing them into MPEG files. The faster the CPU you use, the less time needed for offline MPEG transcoding.

If your hard disk drive is nearly out of space while capturing in non real-time, a warning message will appear in the Preview Window notifying you that a portion of the transcoding process will be paused and resume later after all the content in the buffer has been encoded by your hard disk. (This is called "Capture Auto-Resume".) If less than 150 MB of free space remains, all capturing is disabled. We recommend that you have sufficient free hard disk space before proceeding with non real-time DV capturing. The recommended space depends on your hardware computing power and the selected profile. However, to be safe, follow this table for non real-time DV capturing:

Time Captured (Minutes) Recommended Free Hard Disk Space
    1 390 MB
    3 810 MB
    5 1230 MB
    10 2280 MB
    20 4380 MB
    30 6480 MB
    60 12.18 GB

If your PC has sufficient CPU power (for example, Pentium III 800, Athlon 800 or above), it may require less free hard drive space than recommended above, since the CPU may have enough computing power to consume the buffered frames. PowerProducer can run in Auto-Resume mode only if your DV tape has sequential timecodes. If your tape's timecodes have been reset (e.g. by turning your DV camcorder off and on before recording new content or recording over existing content), it will seek to the wrong timecode when Capture Auto-Resume resumes, and thus fail.

Compatible Capture Cards and Drivers

  1. IEEE 1394 capture device compatibility list. The PowerProducer DV video capture modules utilize the Microsoft Windows driver. It is required that the IEEE1394 capture devices be compliant with the OHCI standard. Please visit CyberLink Web site for the latest models list at http://support.gocyberlink.com/.
