Troubleshooting the Laplink USB Network Cable
This section addresses some of the problems you might encounter when you are installing your USB Network cable and driver. For more information, go to the LapLink technical support Web site at http://www.laplink.com/support

You are not sure if your computer is USB compatible
You can download a testing program called usbready.exe and test your computer for compatibility. Go to the Web site http://www.usb.org/shopping_bag.html.
- Click the Usbready tab.
- Save the program to your computer in C:\Program Files.
- Start Windows Explorer or My Computer, and then double-click the usbready.exe program.
- The testing program will display a green Yes sign if your computer is USB-compatible.
- The testing program will display a red No sign if your computer is not USB-compatible.

You already installed the USB Network cable driver and decide you need the network bridge option
Uninstall the cable driver from the computer that is connected to a network, and then reinstall and choose the network bridge option when prompted.
- Disconnect the USB Network cable from the computer that is connected to a network.
- Click the Start button, and then click Settings.
- Click Control Panel, and then double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- On the Install/Uninstall tab, select USB Network Cable Driver v1.3b.
- Click the Add/Remove button.
- Click Yes to uninstall the USB Network cable driver, and then click Yes to restart your computer.
- Reinstall the USB Network cable driver and click Yes when Setup prompts you to choose the network bridge option.
- Connect the USB Network cable to the USB port on your computer.

You chose Yes to install the network bridge option on a computer that is not connected to a network
Uninstall the USB Network cable driver from the computer that is not connected to a network, and then reinstall and click No when Setup prompts you to choose the network bridge option.
- Disconnect the USB Network cable from the computer that is not connected to a network.
- Uninstall the USB Network cable driver (see steps 2-7 in the preceding section).
- Reinstall the USB Network cable driver and click No when Setup prompts you to choose the network bridge option.
- Connect the USB Network cable to the USB port on your computer.

You connected the USB Network cable before you installed the USB Network cable driver
You can leave the USB Network cable connected to your computer and install the USB Network cable driver now. With the USB Network cable still connected, follow the steps on Installing the USB Network cable driver to install the USB Network cable driver.
- Click the Start button, and then click Settings.
- Click Control Panel, and then double-click the System icon.
- On the Device Manager tab, locate the device that is marked with a yellow exclamation point.
- Select the device, and then click the Remove button.
- Disconnect the USB Network cable, and then reconnect it to your computer.
- Repeat this procedure on your second computer.

You cannot log on to the network
Do you have appropriate permissions to access network resources?

You might not have installed the network bridge option.

You cannot see the computers in Windows Network Neighborhood
Is the USB Network cable properly connected to the computers?
- Make sure that the USB network cable is securely connected to the USB ports on both computers.
Have you assigned a unique name to each computer in Windows Network Properties, AND ARE BOTH COMPUTERS ASSIGNED TO THE SAME WORKGROUP?
- Click the Start button, and then click Settings.
- Click Control Panel, and then double-click the Network icon.
- On the Identification tab, verify that each computer has a unique name.
- Verify that both computers are assigned to the same workgroup.
- On the Access Control tab, select the Share-level Access Control option.
- Click OK.
