DV

Overview

Video plugin for creating DV format files. A DV file stores the movie in a very high quality format and can be sent to a DV deck or camcorder for recording to a DV tape.

Import

DV import is handled by the DirectShow video plugin (the Windows DirectX system allows the import of a number of non-AVI video formats).

Export

DV export allows the user to change a number of video parameters of the DV file. The video export dialog is shown below.

Controls

DV Format

Choose between PAL or NTSC output. DV resolutions and frame rate are fixed, so you cannot change these.

Video Encoder

You can choose the DV video encoder that will be used to compress the video. If you have installed the latest DirectX Media, Microsoft's "DV Video Encoder" will be chosen by default. Any other DV encoders that you have installed from third party software companies will also be shown in this list.

AVI File Type

The DV data is kept inside an AVI format file. If you choose an AVI 2.0 file, the file's size is only limited by the operating system - 4 GB for Windows 95 and 98, unlimited for NT4 and 2000. An AVI 1.0 format file is limited to 4 GB (approx 18 minutes of movie), but can be read in by older programs that use the Video For Windows routines.

We recommend using the AVI 2.0 format, as this format has less limitations and can be understood by all Pure Motion products.

Audio And Video Interleaving

Determines how the video and audio will be mixed in the AVI file. Changing the interleave value can improve the playback performance on some systems, but should be left at the default value unless you experience problems.
