Groove Web Site Issues
Problem:
Cannot install Groove or use Groove Web site services if Internet security on Microsoft Internet Explorer is set to "high" and/or cookies are disabled.
Explanation:
In order to install Groove or access your Groove Services Web page, you must access a Web page that runs an ActiveX control and places a cookie on your computer. IE's "high security" setting does not allow ActiveX controls to run.
Workaround:
Change your security settings in IE (from the Tools menu, select Internet Options >> Security) to allow ActiveX controls to run and to allow cookies, then change them back to your preferred setting.

Windows NT and 2000 Installation, Upgrade, and Use Issues
Problem:
Windows account must have Administrator privileges to install or upgrade Groove on Windows NT or 2000.
Explanation:
In order to install or upgrade Groove on Microsoft Windows NT or 2000, your Windows account must have Administrator privileges.
Workaround:
Install or upgrade Groove using an account with Administrator privileges.
Problem:
Windows account must have "write" access to Groove data directory (e.g., c:\program files\groove\data) to use Groove.
Explanation:
In order to use Groove, your account must be able to store ("write") data to the Groove data directory.
Workaround:
Ensure that your Windows account has "write" privileges to the Groove data directory, or contact your system administrator.

Netscape Communicator
Problem:
Unable to add new tools, open invitations, or insert contacts into Personal Contacts list directly from a Web page with Netscape as default browser.
Explanation:
Netscape Communicator cannot properly handle contact (.vcg) or Groove (.grv) files on Web pages.
Workaround:
When you click on a link to a .vcg or .grv file, Netscape will display an "Unknown File Type" message. Click Save File . . ., then choose a location to save the file. Open Windows Explorer and double-click the file. Remember, you must have an active Internet connection, a valid Groove account on your computer, and Groove must not be set to Work Offline to install a tool.
Problem:
Unable to properly open hyperlinks with Netscape 6 as default browser.
Explanation:
Netscape 6 indicates an error, but still opens to the correct page, when you click a hyperlink in Groove.
Workaround:
Click OK when Netscape displays the error message. Despite the error message, the correct Web site should be displayed when the browser window opens.
Accounts and Identities
Problem:
Using an account on more than one computer does not function properly in certain circumstances.
Explanation:
Groove is designed to allow you to access your data from more than one computer. At this time, this may not function properly.
Workaround:
Avoid deleting an account you've copied from another device, and only save your account file (to disk or groove.net) from the computer on which it was created.
Files Tool
Problem:
Changing tools or shutting down Groove while editing a file in Files tool results in lost data.
Explanation:
If you're editing a Files Tool file in its native application, you will lose any changes if you switch tools or shut down the Groove application without saving the file.
Workaround:
Save all changes made to Files tool files before switching tools or shutting down Groove.
Performance-Related Issues
Problem:
Groove's performance is inadequate or the program seems sluggish when responding to commands or keystrokes.
Explanation:
In some circumstances, Groove may not respond to keystrokes or other actions immediately. For example, you might click on an icon and experience a delay of several seconds before the expected action occurs.
Workaround:
At this time there is no workaround. Please contact technical support to report this problem. Until this problem is addressed it is best to avoid repeating keystrokes or repeatedly clicking your mouse, which may exacerbate the problem.
Communications and Connection Issues
Problem:
Groove performance is slow or unpredictable through firewalls.
Explanation:
Groove is designed to support communications through firewalls, and does function through most commercially-available firewalls. However, there are many types and configurations of firewalls, and Groove may be very slow or nonfunctional through your company's firewall.
Workaround:
Contact your network administrator. Groove plans to improve firewall performance in a future release.
Problem:
The process of receiving a shared space may be slow.
Explanation:
A shared space contains a variety of data coming from several sources (components from Groove Networks' Web site, other information from shared space members), so it may take several minutes for the space to be available.
Workaround:
If the time it takes to obtain a shared space seems inconsistent with your Internet connection speed or with your previous experience grooving, report the issue to Customer Support.
Security Issues
Problem:
Instant Groove attachments may be unencrypted on disk during and after certain operations.
Explanation:
During some operations (for example, opening a file in an external application or copying a file to the clipboard), attachments in Instant Messages you receive can temporarily be stored unencrypted on-disk. These temporary files may not always be removed by Windows or by Groove when the operation is completed.
Workaround:
If you are concerned about particular files, shut down Groove and the external application and ensure that copies of these files are removed from your temporary files (usually C:\temp in Windows NT and C:\Windows\Temp in Windows 95 and 98) directory.
Problem:
Groove does not allow you to determine whether the sender of a message is "known" without adding the contact to your Personal Contacts List.
Explanation:
Currently, the only way to determine if the sender of a Groove message is one of your existing contacts is to add the sender's name to your contact list and compare digital fingerprints. However, once the name has been added, it is not possible to distinguish the two contacts.
Workaround:
If you would like to verify that someone sending you a message is a known contact, click My Contacts and select the known contact name you suspect to be the sender. Write down the digital fingerprint of your known contact. Return to the message and click From: to add the sender to your Personal Contact List. Click My Contacts and compare the digital fingerprints of your existing contact and the sender of the message. If the fingerprints are not identical then the two contacts may not be the same person.

General Groove Application Issues
Problem:
Non-MAPI (Messaging Application Programming Interface) compliant mail applications or setups are unable to properly send an email invitation.
Explanation:
Most email applications will have no problem understanding Groove contact files and acting appropriately. Certain applications, notably Lotus Notes and Microsoft Outlook 2000, are not installed with MAPI support by default.
Workaround:
If your email package does not launch properly when you try to use "Invite by email", you may still send email invitations by following these steps:
- Click Invite, then select Save Invitation File.
- Open your email application and send the file as an attachment.
As an alternative, use a MAPI-compliant email application (such as Outlook Express). If your application was installed without MAPI support, consult the documentation for that application.
Problem:
Groove error occurs when more than one transceiverTM is open.
Explanation:
Several issues related to having more than one transceiver window open have been identified.
Workaround:
It is best to use a single transceiver and switch between shared spaces, rather than opening a separate transceiver for each space. Therefore, don't open more than one transceiver. If you must have more than one transceiver open and encounter a Groove error, close one transceiver.
