Previous Versions of MAILsweeper for SMTP
MAILsweeper Version 4.0 contains so many new features that it has not been possible to provide a migration path from Version 3.2. You must, therefore, uninstall Version 3.2 before you install Version 4.0.
We recommend that you install MAILsweeper Version 4.0 on a separate machine to that running the earlier version to reduce your downtime. If you do not wish to do this, you must backup the configuration and quarantine directories first.
There are, however, some utilities to assist in converting some data from earlier versions. See Unsupported Directory section below.
Please note that you need to obtain a new licence to run Version 4.0.
Installation
The installation procedure is fully described in the Getting Started Guide.
Installation Problems
NT Server under some circumstances, when running on NT Server, InstallShield displays a message saying it is rebooting your PC, but fails to do so. If this happens, reboot your PC manually to continue the installation.
Securing the host machine if you are securing the host machine (see Getting Started Guide, Chapter 7) and if your MAILsweeper services are on a different sub-net to your MAILsweeper Manager machine, specify the MAILsweeper machine's IP address when configuring the Manager snap-in. If you specify the machine name, the remote Manager may be unable to gain access to MAILsweeper.
Dialup dialup is not supported in this version.
MAPI32 DLLs the MAPI32 DLL is required for the TNEF format manager. Some early versions of this DLL do not provide sufficient support. This results in all TNEF messages being classified as Undetermined. If you suffer this problem, ensure that you have MAPI32 version 4.0 or later installed. This DLL is supplied with Windows NT Messaging.
Multi-processor if you are installing on a multi-processor machine you must run it in single-processor mode.

Unsupported Directory
The following utilities are provided on an unsupported basis:

this allows you to import routes and aliases used in a MAILsweeper Version 3.x
system into the configuration for MAILsweeper for SMTP Version 4.0. This should be done before
uninstalling the earlier version. The utility is to be found on the delivery CD in a
sub-directory:
Unsupp\mig
Full details are in the mig.txt file in this directory.
Quarantine Upgrade Utility
this allows you to import messages that were quarantined by MAILsweeper Version 3.2
into your MAILsweeper version 4.0 message areas. It is to be found on the delivery CD in a
sub-directory:
Unsupp\quarupgrade
Full details are in the quarupgrade.txt file in this directory.
