Wisebot is a Web development tool that will automatically
create navigational applets and push channel content for your site. This page gives you
basic information about:
For more detailed instructions, please use the on-line help.
Getting Started:
Wisebot has scanned your site and has
automatically generated your Index, Site Map, What's New Page and Channel. Here's
what you need to do next:
- Preview the applets Wisebot has created by selecting one of
the four icons (index, site map, what's new page or push channel) in the vertical toolbar
on the left side of the Report Window. After selecting an icon, Wisebot will show you what
the applet looks like in the Browser pane.
- Customize the page appearance by selecting the HTML button on
the toolbar.
- Customize the applets content by selecting the Edit button on
the upper toolbar.
- Publish the applets to your site so they will be accessible to
your site's visitors by selecting the Publish button on the upper toolbar.
- Schedule automatic updates at regular interval to keep the
applets in sync with your site's changes.
More information
on how Wisebot works:
- Wisebot spiders through your web site and loads meta
information about each page into a database on your PC.
- The meta data includes information such as the title, keywords
and last modified date of each page.
- If the keywords for a page are not contained in the meta
fields of your HTML document, Wisebot will automatically create them using the patent
pending Extractor Technology.
- When the spidering process is complete, Wisebot uses the meta
data to create the Navigation Assistants (Index, Site Map, site Channel and What's new
page).
- Wisebot then allows you to preview and edit the automatically
generated navigational assistants.
- When you're satisfied with your edits, you can publish one or
more of the assistants to your Web site for use by the site's visitors.
- Finally, Wisebot can be programmed to continuously scan the
site at regular intervals. After re-scanning the site, Wisebot will update the
database and upload the new data files for the Navigational Assistants to your site.
Descriptions of the applets Wisebot
creates
- Index (Java Applet)
Wisebot automatically extracts the keywords from your site's pages and
publishes them in an interactive index. Just like a Windows help file or back of the book
index, your visitors can use Wisebot's index to quickly browse the contents of your site
and locate relevant pages.
- Explorer style site map (Java Applet)
Publish an interactive map for your site that will help visitors navigate
your Web site. Use the default map that Wisebot creates or customize the map to suit your
needs.
- What's new page (HTML Page)
Publish a What's new page for your site that always stays current. As your
site gets updated, the headlines on the page change automatically. The what new page will
help users identify new content that's been recently added to your site.
- CDF
channel for IE4
The Channel contains the same content as the What's New Page, however, it is
written to a CDF file. After subscribing to your channel, your sites users will be able to
keep up to date with changes without manually going back to your site.
Overview of the Wisebot Interface
Once you initiate a run, Wisebot will create a
Report Window that displays the applets for your database. The Wisebot interface is
used to create, edit, publish and update the applets. It is not designed as a means of
using the applets. To use the applets you must publish them to an HTML page on your
site. You can then use the applets by accessing the page in a browser. The applets will
then automatically load into that page.
The Report Window is divided into two sections: 1) the vertical
toolbar on the left and 2) a preview browser on the right. Select an icon on the toolbar
to Preview the applet on the right side.
The Preview Browser is actually an Internet Explorer component
that's built into Wisebot. It allows you to preview what the applet will look like when
viewed from a Web Browser.
Note that you must have Internet Explorer installed
on your PC to activate the browser feature.
Scheduling updates to the applets at
regular intervals
You can configure Wisebot's scheduler to update the Index
Applet, What's New Page and Push Channel at regular intervals. See the on-line help for
more information.
