If you are starting with this lesson, you can move the Tutor Docker window to another location to make it easier to work.

In the Image Window, drag the Tutor Docker window tab to a new location.

If you just opened the sample file, you can zoom out to improve your view.

  1. Open the Object/Mask Tools flyout, and click the Object Picker tool.
  2. In the Image Window, click anywhere.
  3. Press F3 twice to zoom out.


You can enhance the appearance of the image by adding multiple lights.

  1. Open the Object/Mask Tools flyout, and click the Object Picker tool.
  2. In the Image Window, click the rust square to select it.
  3. Click Effects menu, Render, Lighting Effects.
  4. In the Lighting Effects dialog box, click the Reset button to reset lighting settings.
  5. In the X box, type 0.
  6. In the Y box, type 0.
  7. Click the Add Light button.
  8. In the X box, type 100.
  9. In the Y box, type 0.
  10. Click the Add light button.
  11. In the X box, type 200.
  12. In the Y box, type 0.
  13. Click the Atmosphere tab.
  14. In the Ambient Brightness box, type 50.
  15. Click OK.


You can also add a light in the foreground.

  1. Open the Object/Mask Tools flyout, and click the Object Picker tool.
  2. In the Image Window, click the gray square to select it.
  3. Click Effects menu, Render, Lighting Effects.
  4. In the Lighting Effects dialog box, click the Reset button to reset lighting settings.
  5. Click the Omni button to produce a round spot light that feathers out around the circle.
  6. In the Cone Size box, type 160.
  7. In the X box, type 100.
  8. In the Y box, type 40.
  9. In the Opacity box, type 0.
  10. Click OK.


You can apply texture to the foreground by making the gray square look like pavement.

  1. Open the Object/Mask Tools flyout, and click the Object Picker tool.
  2. In the Image Window, ensure that the gray square is selected.
  3. Click Effects menu, Texture, Stone.
  4. From the Style list box in the Stone dialog box, choose Asphalt.
  5. Click OK.

You can also add a brick wall texture to the background.

  1. Open the Object/Mask Tools flyout, and click the Object Picker tool.
  2. In the Image Window, click the rust square to select it.
  3. Click Effects menu, Texture, Brick Wall.
  4. In the Roughness box in the Brick Wall dialog box, type 23.
  5. Click OK.


You can combine the brick wall and the pavement to create a background and reduce the file size.

  1. Open the Object/Mask Tools flyout, and click the Object Picker tool.
  2. In the Image Window, hold down SHIFT, and click the brick wall and pavement to select the objects.
  3. Click Object menu, Combine, Combine Objects Together.

You can save your file to safeguard your work.

  1. Click File menu, Save As.
  2. Choose the drive where you want to save from the Save In list box.
  3. Double-click the folder in which you want to save the file.
  4. In the File Name box, type a filename, and click Save.
