If you are starting with this lesson, you can move the Tutor Docker window to another location to make it easier to work.

In the Image Window, drag the Tutor Docker window tab to a new location.

If you just opened the sample file, you can zoom out to improve your view.

  1. Open the Object/Mask Tools flyout, and click the Object Picker tool.
  2. In the Image Window, click anywhere.
  3. Press F3 twice to zoom out.

You can add a drop shadow to the paint tube and the paint.

  1. Open the Object/Mask Tools flyout, and click the Object Picker tool.
  2. In the Image Window, click the paint tube to select the object.
  3. Click the Object Dropshadow tool.
  4. From the Shadow Preset list box on the Property Bar, choose Flat Bottom Left.
  5. On the Property Bar, enable the Shadow Mode button.
  6. In the Image Window, drag the drop shadow to the correct position.
  7. On the Property Bar, click the Apply button.

You can change the transparency of the butterfly eyes using a clip mask.

  1. Open the Object/Mask Tools flyout, and click the Object Picker tool.
  2. Ensure that the Objects Docker window is open.
  3. In the Objects Docker window, click the eyes thumbnail to select the object.
  4. Right-click the eyes thumbnail, and click Create Clip Mask, From Object Transparency.

You can choose a paint color and paint brush.

  1. Open the Paint Tools flyout, and click the Paint tool.
  2. On the on-screen Color Palette, click the black color swatch.
  3. In the Nib Size box on the Property Bar, type 30.


You can paint the edges of the butterfly.

  1. Open the Object/Mask Tools flyout, and click the Object Picker tool.
  2. In the Image Window, click the butterfly eyes to select the object.
  3. In the Objects Docker window, click the Create Mask From Object(s) button.
  4. Open the Paint Tools flyout, and click the Paint tool.
  5. On the Property Bar, click the Stroke Mask button.
  6. In the Choose Stroke Position dialog box, enable the Middle Of Mask Border button.
  7. Click OK.
  8. In the Image Window, paint the edges of the butterfly.
  9. Click Mask menu, Remove to remove the current mask.

You can brighten the butterfly eyes by applying a lens.

  1. In the Objects Docker window, click the eyes thumbnail to select it.
  2. Click the Create Mask From Object(s) button.
  3. Disable the Lock Object Transparency button.
  4. Click the New Lens button.
  5. In the New Lens dialog box, click Tone Curve.
  6. Click OK.
  7. From the Channels list box in the Tone Curve dialog box, choose RGB Channels.
  8. Click the Curve button.
  9. In the interactive grid, drag the response curve to create an S-shaped curve.
  10. Click OK.


You can enhance the color of the big lizard using the Sponge tool.

  1. In the Objects Docker window, click the big lizard thumbnail to select it.
  2. Open the Paint Tools flyout, and click the Effect tool.
  3. From the Effect Tool picker on the Property Bar, choose the Sponge tool.
  4. From the Brush Type list box, choose Sponge Add.
  5. From the Paint Mode list box, choose Normal.
  6. In the Nib Size box, type 30.
  7. In the Image Window, drag across the big lizard to bring out the color.

You can frame the blue sky to make it look like a mural.

  1. Ensure that the Objects Docker window is open.
  2. In the Objects Docker window, click the blue square (yellow) thumbnail to select it.
  3. Click Effects menu, Creative, Frame.
  4. In the Frame dialog box, click the Modify tab.
  5. In the Blur/Feather box, type 5.
  6. In the Horizontal box, type 125.
  7. In the Vertical box, type 115.
  8. Click OK.


You can combine all the objects with the background to reduce the file size of the image.

Click Object menu, Combine, Combine All Objects With Background.

You can save the final image to safeguard your work.

  1. Click File menu, Save As.
  2. Choose the drive where you want to save from the Save In list box.
  3. Double-click the folder in which you want to save the file.
  4. In the File Name box, type a filename, and click Save.
