How do you record high quality video?

  1. First, you have to set the optimal recording parameter.
  2. Then choose the proper recording settings (Recording Profile).
  3. Finally, set up the optimal recording environment when using PowerVCR II.
The optimal recording parameter:

If your video capture devices run with VFW or WDM driver, please follow these procedures in setting your Video Format or Capture Pin:

YV12, UYVY or other similar formats
YUV422, AYUV9 or other similar formats
RGB16 or other similar formats
RGB24 or other similar formats
Due to the MPEG compression which uses the YUV (4:2:0)   color format, you can use similar input formats to accelerate the compression as well as controlling the color conversion.

Caution:

Some capture devices' YUV input formats are not stable, especially when working in conjunction with certain VGA cards. This is the main reason why the computer may always display DONE when it hasn't even started performing its task, so please set the default as RGB or other relatives. If the aforementioned problem doesn't occur, please use YUV or other similar formats to accelerate compression.
YUV and similar formats don't have universal standards, so if your video capture device reverses the images, please click the option "Flip Video" for proper adjustment.

The optimal recording setting:

If you want save your recorded video content in VCD format, please choose one of the VCD Profiles. Also, depending on your CPU type, it would be optimal to choose the highest VCD quality format. If your CPU is slower, between 300 to 400MHz, please use the high-speed VCD format for the best quality.
If you want to record the normal video content or DATA CD, please use the MPEG or similar profiles. In addition, according to preferences, please choose the proper bitrate compression profile.
If you want to record high resolution videos, create them using the MPEG or other similar profiles. And, please choose the proper compression bitrate profile according to preferences.
You may also create your own profile depending on personal preferences.
Do not merge different formatted video files (e.g. VCD with MPEG format or MPEG-1 with MPEG-2 formats)
We do not advise merging different recording profiles (e.g. Constant Bitrate with Constant Quality profiles)
We do not advise merging video files that have different frame sizes (e.g. 320x240 with 640x480)
The optimal recording environment:

Access your hard drive's DMA function.
Don't close any of the optimal CPU Options
While recording, please close all applications such as Netscape, IE, Norton Utility, and etc.
Please shut off all power-saving settings. This includes the screen saver, for your monitor screen, hard drive, CPU power-saving, and etc.
