The Oscillators

GakStoar alpha has two oscillators, which are switched over the switch panel , exemplarily here oscillator 2 is selected. Both oscillators can produce 2 waveforms at the same time , however only with the same frequency. For detune effects the second oscillator is needed. For both oscillators a set of adjustments is possible:

parameter range explanation
Waveform1 + Waveform2 Sine...Stairss and Noise The wave shape influences the sound by its content of harmonics. If Noise is selected, both waveforms are set to Noise and the Range-, Balance and Detune Parameters are meaningless
Range 1/4 1/2 1 ... 8 Rough pitch adjustment, 1/4 and 1/2 are 2 or 1 octave lower than the normal pitch of the played note, 1 are the normal pitch and 2 to 8 are multiples of the pitch of the played note.
Balance 0 ... 100 Balance of the two selected waveforms (from the view of oscillator 2, i.e. moving the controller from the central position to the left increases the proportion of oscillator 1).
Detune -4.00 ... 0.00 ... +4.00 Fine pitch adjustment for both waveforms within the range of minus 4,00 Hz up to plus 4,00 cycles per second. A value of 0.00 results in an exactly tuned tone. If detune is used with two oscillators the typical fat synth sound is produced. Another way to make the sound more rich is the pulse width modulation.

The following waveforms are available:

Sine Triangle Sawtooth Square
Pulse 50 Pulse 25 Pulse 12 Pulse 6
Def Sine Sh Sine Hil Sine Stairs
