Floating images are graphical objects over a transparent background. This technique is also referred to as images with an "alpha-channel" or a "transparency mask". Generic graphics formats supporting floating images (fully, or to some extent) include TIFF, PNG and GIF. Many proprietary formats will also work.
Stock libraries of floating images are available for purchase. In addition, many graphics tools, including Adobe PhotoShop and Corel Draw, may be used to create floating images. Consult the documentation of your graphics software for ways to apply a mask to an image, or how to use a special tool to trace the edges of an object. Once the object has been isolated from its background, it usually must be pasted on a transparent background. If available, use an anti-aliasing feature to smoothen the edges of the object.
Export the image in a file format that supports floating images and import into StudioLine.
Imagery created in StudioLine can always be used as a floating object.
Open the Page Editor.
Create a collage of text, simple geometric objects or any other graphics.
Use Image Tools such as Buttonize & Shadow, Soft Frame or Rotate which require partial transparency over the background.
Select the entire collage, click Copy on the toolbar to copy to the Windows clipboard.
Switch to Image Archive mode.
Click Paste on the toolbar to store the collage as a floating image in the Image Archive.
Optionally, export the image for use in other applications.
