Windows System Requirements

The RealPlayer 5.0 is designed to work in all Windows environments, though RealFlash and Full Screen Video features are only available on Windows 95/NT. The following table explains which hardware is required for specific Windows operating systems. Note that different hardware is required for playing video and audio files.

Full screen video requires Microsoft DirectX tools and recent video drivers. Your machine may already support full screen. RealPlayer 5.0 will tell you if you need DirectX or new video drivers, and take you to the full screen help site.

Note: Windows NT users should use the 32-bit RealPlayer or RealAudio Player.

****If you are using Windows 95 and you have a 16-bit winsock (winsock.dll), you must use the Windows 3.1x (16-bit) version of the RealAudio Player 3.0.

To use the Windows 95 (32-bit) RealPlayer, use a 32-bit winsock such as the winsock that comes with Windows 95 (wsock32.dll).

Supported Windows Browsers

To get the most benefit from the RealPlayer, it is recommend that you have a World Wide Web browser installed. The following World Wide Web browsers are currently supported:

Macintosh System Requirements

The RealPlayer 5.0 is designed to work on the Macintosh PowerPC. Macintosh 68040 users should download RealAudio Player 3.0. The following table explains which hardware is required for specific Macintosh machines.

Connection Speed Depends on the Encoding Algorithm, mimimum speed is 14.4 Kbps. It is recommended that you have at least a 28.8 Kbps connection.
