WERTH Wins Individual Dressage Gold
With the performance of a brilliant freestyle, Isabell WERTH and Gigolo of Germany overtook Anky VAN GRUNSVEN and Bonfire of the Netherlands to earn the individual dressage gold medal. WERTH and Gigolo posted a freestyle score of 83.00, more than 3 points better than the 79.58 posted by VAN GRUNSVEN and Bonfire, resulting in a Grand Prix, Grand Prix Special and freestyle total of 235.09 for WERTH and 233.02 for VAN GRUNSVEN. Sven ROTHENBERGER and Weyden of the Netherlands rounded out Saturday's medalists, as the pair posted a freestyle score of 76.78 for a three-test total of 224.94. The 13 competitors in the freestyle performed in front of a dressage championship record capacity crowd of 31,000 spectators at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers.

"Today was the best ride I've had in a very long time, maybe in my life," said gold medalist Isabell WERTH. "There was so much pressure, and it was a very emotional win for me."
