Boasting the largest collection of licensed Olympic merchandise to be found for sale anywhere during the 1996 Olympic Games, the single-story Centennial Olympic Park SuperStore will offer everything from lapel pins, collector steins, sunglasses, apparel, and backpacks, to cameras and film, limited edition posters, timepieces, cosmetics and collectible die-cast miniature vehicles.
Centered on the western perimeter of the new Centennial Olympic Park and facing International Boulevard, the 38,000 square foot facility will be open to the public from 15 May through 31 August, 1996. The store will be the first attraction to open in the Park.
The interior of the Centennial Olympic Park SuperStore will be divided by two central aisles running the entire length of the structure. More than 50 licensees will display merchandise in showroom spaces of various sizes on either side of the aisles.
The store's northern corner will contain a stage for product demonstrations, personal appearances and other promotional opportunities.
Twenty-eight state-of-the-art, check-out terminals manufactured by AT&T's NCR division will be located on the northwest end of the facility. Featuring a high-tech electronic signature capture for VISA credit card transactions and an ergonomically correct terminal layout, the check-out system is designed to minimize the time it will take each customer to pay for merchandise.
As customers stroll through the fully air-conditioned facility, greeters and customer service representatives will welcome and assist them with product location and demonstrations. Expediters will facilitate rapid check-out by ensuring merchandise tags are attached and by explaining payment options as customers approach the terminals.
The Centennial Olympic Park SuperStore will be operational seven days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. before the Park formally opens, and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. each day during the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games.
