Germans Earn Fourth Consecutive Team Gold
The German dressage team cruised to its fourth consecutive team dressage gold medal on Sunday at Georgia International Horse Park, posting a team score of 5553 points, for a 116-point margin of victory over the Netherlands (5437). The United States finish third with a total of 5309 to complete a victory platform identical to 1992 in Barcelona. Monica THEODORESCU and Grunox of Germany sealed the victory with their morning score of 1845. Sven and Gonnelien ROTHENBERGER of the Netherlands became the second husband-and-wife pair in the span of one week to medal on the same team, following David and Karen O'CONNOR of the United States who earned silver medals on the U.S. three day event team on Wednesday. All four riders from each of the three medal teams have qualified for the Grand Prix Special, the first round of individual competition, which will commence on 31 July.
