General Motors Attraction at
Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta
General Motors will present the Southern Music Amphitheater, as well as an attraction called "The Century of Motion" in Centennial Olympic Park during this summer's Olympic Games. The attraction will include three distinct pavilions covering more than 15,000 square feet at the southern end of the Park. GM will also sponsor the Southern Music Amphitheater, adjacent to "The Century of Motion."
The attraction will be open from 13 July through 4 August, with hours of operation from 9:00 a.m. to midnight. Neither Olympic event tickets nor credentials are required to enter Centennial Olympic Park, and all GM-sponsored activities are free-of-charge.
Features of the GM presentation include:
- The Southern Music Amphitheater, which will provide continuous live entertainment by local and regional performers from noon until midnight each day of the Olympic Games. Each evening will be highlighted by a state-of-the-art car ballet in which life-size sculptured cars, high above the crowd, will move to a medley of 100 years of American music.
- Pavilion one, which will hold The Century of Motion Theater where a panoramic screen will show a short film on the parallel evolutions of human motion and transportation.
- Pavilion two, which houses the Thrill of Motion Theater. While visitors stand on three balcony tiers, hydraulic "shock jacks" will move the tiers in synchronization with a film depicting both athletic and automotive motion, providing visitors a life-like feel for activities such as coming off a diving board and plunging under water.
- Pavilion three, where visitors will use touch-screen technology in a photo booth to have their picture taken and digitized into a postcard of themselves together with a GM vehicle and background they have selected.
