1996 Centennial Olympic Games Gymnastics - Artistic and Gymnastics - Rhythmic Draw of Lots/Group Composition Held

(Atlanta, Georgia) - The Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG), in conjunction with the Fédération International de Gymnastique (FIG), recently held the Gymnastics - Artistic, and Gymnastics - Rhythmic, official Draw of Lots and Group Composition for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games.

The Draw for Lots, the formal procedure that determines the competition order for gymnasts competing as individuals or teams in each of the four types of Olympic Games competition was held at the World Gymnastic Championships, Sunday, 21 April 1996 in the Condado Plaza Hotel and Casino, Puerto Rico. It was presided over by FIG President Yuri Titov, Dave Maggard, Managing Director of Sports, ACOG, and Mike Milidonis, Gymnastics Competition Manager, ACOG.

In total, 13 draws took place, including the order for training on the official competition podium:

The All-Around Finals in Gymnastics - Artistic (Competition II) is an event for the best 36 gymnasts as qualified from IA and IB. No more than three gymnasts from any country can qualify for the competition. Competition III is the Individual Event Finals. The top eight gymnasts compete on each event as qualified from Competition IA + IB. No more than two gymnasts from any one country may qualify into each individual event.
