Baeden CHOPPY redirected a shot on a penalty corner in the 69th minute, scoring a goal and giving Australia a 3-2 win over Germany and the bronze medal in the 1996 Olympic Games. Jay STACY logged two goals for the Aussies, who finish the tournament at 4-2-1. Sven MEINHARDT and Oliver DOMKE scored to give Germany a 2-1 lead in the 46th minute, but the opportunistic Australian offense kept chipping away at the stingy German defense in a contest where tempers often flared. Germany, the defending gold medalist, ended the tournament with a 3-3-1 mark after suffering its second consecutive loss.

Second-half Scoring Outburst Gives Netherlands First-ever Gold Medal
Floris Jan BOVELANDER scored on two penalty corner plays just 3:00 apart, erasing a 1-0 Spanish lead and putting the Netherlands ahead for good on its way to a 3-1 win and its first-ever gold medal in men's hockey. Victor PUJOL had put the Spaniards ahead with his field goal in the 45th minute, but BOVELANDER's first goal in the 52nd minute tied the score and his second in the 55th minute put the Dutch in the lead. Bram LOMANS scored on a penalty corner in the 67th minute to seal the verdict. Spain, which tied its best-ever finish with a silver medal, finished the tournament at 5-2. The Netherlands, winners of two bronze and three silver medals in the past, recorded a 6-0-1 mark.

KOR vs. PAK
Korea Uses Balanced Scoring Attack to Top Pakistan For 5th Place
Three players contributed a goal each as Korea beat Pakistan 3-1 in the men's hockey 5th-place game on Friday morning. JEON Jong-Ha and SHIN Seok-Kyo scored first-half goals to give Korea a 2-1 lead at intermission, and SONG Seung-Tae added an insurance goal in the 68th minute for the final margin. Kamran ASHRAF tallied the lone Pakistan score with a first-half field goal. Korea finished the tournament at 3-2-2, while Pakistan ended at 3-3-1.
