The Korean's late heroics overshadowed a two-goal performance by Great Britain's Calum GILES, who scored twice on penalty corner plays. The game was tied 1-1 at intermission after KANG Keon Wook pushed his shot past British goalkeeper Simon MASON just before the horn sounded. Final Score: GBR 2, KOR 2
"There are undoubtedly teams in this tournament who have good short strikers. We think we have the best (in Calum Giles)," said British manager David Whittle.
AUS vs. RSA
South Africa and Australia battle to 1-1 tie South Africa, competing in its first-ever men's hockey tournament at the Olympic Games, proved it belonged in Atlanta by forging a 1-1 tie with Pool B favorite Australia in the finale of men's hockey competition on Sunday. After Australia took a 1-0 lead on Mark HAGER's goal in the 61st minute, South Africa rallied with a score by Gregory NICOL four minutes later. South African goalkeeper Brian MYBURGH had an outstanding game, posting a double-digit total in saves. Final Score: AUS 1, RSA 1
ESP vs. GER
WOLLSCHLAGER shines again for Germany in 3-1 win German goalkeeper Susanne WOLLSCHLAGER, following up on her shutout of Argentina on Saturday, had 10 saves, including a crucial glove save late in the contest, to help Germany stay undefeated in women's hockey play with a 3-1 victory over Spain. Victoria SCHMORANZER VAN KOOPEREN scored twice for Germany and Heike LAETZSCH added the final tally. Argentina's lone goal came on Maider TELLERIA's penalty stroke. Final Score: GER 3, ESP 1
NED vs. GBR
British, Dutch finish in 1-1 deadlock In a game Great Britain could not afford to lose if it hoped to stay in the hunt for an Olympic medal, the British used a second-half penalty stroke goal by Christine COOK to forge a 1-1 tie with the Netherlands in the final game of women's hockey action on Sunday. After allowing five goals to Korea in the opener on Saturday, the British defense was much tighter against the Dutch, who now have two 1-1 deadlocks in the 1996 Olympic Games. Jeannette LEWIN scored the lone goal for the Netherlands. Final Score: NED 1, GBR 1
