Women's Gymnastics Individual All-Around Finals

PODKOPAYEVA Wins Women's All-Around Title:

Lilia PODKOPAYEVA (UKR) won the gold in the finals of the women's individual all-around competition at the 1996 Olympic Games. She was the top qualifier coming in to Thursday's event. The 1995 world champion and as such one of the favorites for this title, PODKOPAYEVA continued the flawless performances that had marked her efforts in the team competition. Her four-event total for the all-around title was 39.255, including a 9.887 in her final event, the floor exercise.

Equally impressive was the performance of the Romanian team, which saw each of its three all-arounders win medals, including two who tied for the bronze. Gina GOGEAN earned the silver medal, scoring 39.075. Simona AMANAR and Lavinia MILOSOVICI each will take home a bronze medal after scoring identical scores of 39.067.

Final Standings: Gold - Lilia PODKOPAYEVA (UKR) 39.255; Silver - Gina GOGEAN (ROM) 39.075; Bronze (tie) - Simona AMANAR (ROM) 39.067 and Lavinia MILOSOVICI (ROM) 39.067.
