Last Shot Drops U.S. to Seventh:Spectators were shocked when U.S. shooter Rob HARBISON, who was in third place, shot only an 8.4 to close out the men's 10m air rifle competition on Day 03 of the 1996 Olympic Games. The shot dropped him to seventh place, and Jean-Pierre AMAT (FRA) took the bronze. Artem KHADZHIBEKOV of Russia came from behind to capture the gold medal by five-tenths of a point. Tears welled in his eyes as he watched his country's flag raise in the 50m range at Wolf Creek during the victory ceremony.
Medalists: Artem KHADZHIBEKOV (RUS), 695.7; Wolfram WAIBEL
Jr. (AUT), 695.2; Jean-Pierre AMAT (FRA), 693.1.
