    Qualifications
    A competitor must have achieved the minimum score of 5,100 points in a qualifying competition and be one of the top two athletes from his country. USA automatically qualified as host country.

    Competition Format
    The shooting event will be a 4.5mm air pistol event consisting of 20 shots fired at 20 targets. In fencing, electronic one-touch épée bouts last 1 minute. In the 300m freestyle swim, athletes race against the clock in four heats of eight swimmers. In the riding event, athletes and horses ride over a 450m stadium course with 12 jumps including a double jump and a triple jump. The athletes start on a handicapped basis for the 4,000m cross-country run for time. The first athlete to cross the finish line at the end of the run is the winner.
