Olympic Synchronized Swimming Recaps: 30 July (Day 11)

Synchronized Swimming/Team Technical Program

United States in first after technical routine

The United States synchronized swimming team received three perfect scores (on a 10 scale) in its technical routine and will enter the free routine in the number one position. The United States was the only team of eight competing to receive a perfect score and compiled 99.200 points to distance themselves from second place Canada with 97.933 points. Japan was third with 97.667. The three teams finished in the same respective places at the World Cup competition a year ago.

The synchronized swimming team competition made its debut in these Olympic Games. The competition consists of two programs, the technical and free routines. The technical program will account for 35 percent of the total team score, while the free routine takes on 65 percent of the team score. The free routine will take place on Friday, 2 August at 17:00. The three teams with the highest accumulated point total will be awarded the medals.

Final Score: Places after technical program: 1. United States, 99.200; 2. Canada, 97.933; 3. Japan, 97.667.
