Women's Double Trap Final

17-Year-Old Captures Gold Medal:

In her first Olympic Games competition, U.S. shooter Kim Rhode not only won the gold medal, but set an Olympic record as well. Her final score of 141 in the women's double trap final was two points higher than the silver and bronze medalists, who tied with a score of 139, then competed in an immediate shoot-off to determine the second-place winner. Medalists: Kim RHODE (USA), 141; Susanne KIERMAYER (GER), 139 + 2; Deserie HUDDLESTON (AUS), 139 + 1.

Men's Free Pistol Qualifications

Wang Back in Competition:

After missing the gold medal by one tenth of a point in the men's air pistol event, WANG Yifu (CHN) qualified for the men's free pistol final in seventh place. He fainted from the heat after the air pistol final and a teammate had to accept his silver medal for him. Not taking any chances, WANG is competing this time with a tank of oxygen near his feet. Gold medalist in that event, Roberto Di DONNA, is in second place going into the final with a score of 569. Qualifiers: Boris KOKOREV (RUS), Roberto Di DONNA (ITA), Vigilio FAIT (ITA), Igor BASINSKI (BLR), Konstantin LOUKACHIK (BLR), Martin TENK (CZE), Yifu WANG (CHN), Sergio SANCHEZ (GUA).


Men's Free Pistol Final

Russia Continues Domination:

Boris KOKOREV (RUS) won and set an Olympic Record in the men's free pistol final today, bringing the Russia's medal count up to 4 in shooting. He and Roberto Di DONNA bounced between first and second throughout the competition, but Igor BASINSKI (BLR) snuck up behind to capture the silver. Other 1996 Olympic Games Russian medalists in shooting are: Artem KHADZHIBEKOV (gold), Olga KLOCHNEVA (gold) and Marina LOGVINENKO (silver). Medalists: Boris KOKOREV (RUS), 666.4; Igor BASINSKI (BLR), 662.0; Roberto Di DONNA (ITA), 661.8.
