VAN GRUNSVEN Takes Individual Dressage Lead After Special
At the conclusion of the Grand Prix Special, the second of three tests to decide the individual dressage medalists, Anky VAN GRUNSVEN and Bonfire of the Netherlands stand in first place with a Special score of 77.72, ranked first by all five judges. The leader going into Wednesday's competition, Isabell WERTH and Gigolo of Germany, was hindered by two errors during her test, a stumble in the early portion and a mistake during the tempi (flying lead) changes. She has dropped to second with a Special score of 75.49. Roswell, Georgia, native Michelle GIBSON and Peron of the United States remain in third place. The individual competition will conclude on Saturday, when the top 13 riders will perform a freestyle test, also known as a musical Kur.
Current Standings: 1. Anky VAN GRUNSVEN/Bonfire (NED) 153.55, 2. Isabell WERTH/Gigolo (GER) 152.09, 3. Michelle GIBSON/Peron (USA) 149.48.
"Today's test was my best ever," said Anky VAN GRUNSVEN of the Netherlands. "Every time you enter a stadium, you worry about doing a good test, but when I left the ring, I was really, really pleased."
