Qualifications
Athletes qualified based on 1995 World Championships and a second
Olympic qualifying event held on the Ocoee River in the spring of 1996.
Competition Format
Athletes have one day for official training runs and two days of competition, with two classes per day. Slalom competitors compete in two timed runs over the 415-meter whitewater course. Racers must pass through 25 gates, with at least six gates being upstream.
In the event that two or more competitors obtain
the same score, the competitor with the fastest
other run will be declared the highest finisher.
If the other scores are also equal, a tie is
declared.
