CRO vs. KUW

CAVAR Leads Croatia to 31-22 Victory:

Patrik CAVAR of Croatia scored 10 goals to pace his team to a 31-22 decision over Kuwait on Thursday. Bozidar JOVIC converted on all seven of his shots to aid the Croatian cause. Kuwait led just once during the match (at 1-0), but pulled to within four goals in the second half, in part because of spectacular goalkeeping from Abdulrazak ALBLOUSHI. However, Kuwait's hopes of completing the comeback were severely damaged when leading scorer Salah ALMARZOUQ was red-carded with 7:00 remaining.

Final Score: CRO 31, KUW 22

Pool A, Match 4

FRA vs. ALG

France Starts Out Slow, Finishes Strong, 33-22:

France recorded a tournament-high 33 goals to defeat Algeria 33-22 on Thursday. After Algeria started the match with a 5-1 run, Stephane STOECKLIN scored five times to help France grab a 13-10 lead at intermission. In the second half, Algeria scored just three goals in the first 15 minutes while France's lead ballooned to 10 goals. STOECKLIN led all scorers with nine goals, while Algeria's Sofiane LAMALI found the net five times.

Final Score: FRA 33, ALG 22


Men's Handball / Preliminary Round, Pool A

SUI vs. SWE

Sweden Dominates in Win Over Switzerland

Erik HAJAS scored six goals to help lead Sweden to a 26-19 victory over Switzerland in a men's preliminary round Pool A handball game. Sweden jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first six minutes of the game behind two goals from HAJAS, who powered the Swedish team with four first-half scores. Final Score: SWE 26, SUI 19.


Men's Handball / Preliminary Round, Pool B

ESP vs. GER

Spain Scores Two Goals in Final Minute to Top Germany

Spain scored two goals in the last minute to knock off Germany 22-20 in a men's handball preliminary round Pool B match on Thursday. Alberto URDIALES and Raul GONZALES iced the game for the Spanish team in the final minute, giving them their initial win over an undefeated Germany. Jesus OLALLA and Mateo GARRALDA led Spain with four goals each, while Volker ZERBE led all scorers with six goals for Germany. Final Score: ESP 22, GER 20.

"We played the last two minutes in attack and moved the ball," said GARRALDA. "We flowed much better following that."
