IVANISEVIC Becomes the First Tennis Casualty
No. 2-seeded Goran IVANISEVIC fell to unseeded Marcos ONDRUSKA, 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of Olympic tennis at Stone Mountain. The Croatian told reporters he had not prepared for the match and did not expect to win it going in. Third-seeded Thomas ENQVIST of Sweden had a scare of his own, coming back from 4-2 down in the third set to defeat Marc-Kevin GOELLNER of Germany, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-4. No. 14 seed Richey RENEBERG (USA), who replaced Pete SAMPRAS (USA) in the singles draw, retired from his first round match with an injury after leading, 7-6, 6-7, 1-0. RENEBERG is not expected to compete with partner Malvai WASHINGTON (USA) in doubles when that competition begins later this week.

Top Women Advance to Tennis' Second Round
The women's No. 2 seed, Spain's Conchita MARTINEZ had an easy day at the office Wednesday, dispatching Patty SCHNYDER of Switzerland, 6-1, 6-1 in her opening match at Stone Mountain Tennis Center. Most of the women's top seeds advanced without incident, including seventh-seeded Mary Joe FERNANDEZ (USA), who stepped into the U.S. singles lineup Saturday to replace an injured Chanda RUBIN (USA). FERNANDEZ defeated Russia's Elena LIKHOVTSEVA, 6-2, 6-4 in her first singles match on Center Court.
