Equestrian Team Dressage/Rounds 1 and 2

Germans Hold Solid Lead

With their first ride of the day, the German dressage team served notice that they intend to successfully defend the team gold medal won in Barcelona. Isabell WERTH and Gigolo turned in a score of 1915 (76.60 percent), to hold the individual lead and put Germany on top of the team standings. Paired with Klaus BALKENHOL and Goldstern's afternoon ride of 1793 points (71.73 percent), Germany holds a 164-point lead over the Netherlands. The United States stands in third place, 15 points behind the Netherlands, and American Michelle GIBSON and Peron are in second place individually with a score of 1880 (75.20 percent), while Dutch rider Sven ROTHENBERGER and Weyden are in third at 1854 (74.16 percent),.The remaining two riders from each team, along with six more individuals, will perform the Grand Prix test on Sunday to complete the team competition. The top 24 individual riders then will advance to the Grand Prix Special on 31 July.

Team Standings after Two Rounds: 1. Germany, 3708; 2. Netherlands, 3544, 3. United States, 3529.

"I put in the best ride that I could, and didn't really think about the points," said Michelle GIBSON of the United States. "I was very happy with the test, particularly with (Peron's) extended trot, piaffe and passage."
