JOYNER-KERSEE Withdraws From Heptathlon

Two time defending Olympic champion and world record holder Jackie JOYNER-KERSEE (USA) withdrew from Saturday's heptathlon competition following the morning's heats of the first event, the 100m hurdles.

Running with a heavily bandaged right thigh, JOYNER-KERSEE pulled away by a large margin to win the third heat of the hurdles. She slowed coming off the final hurdle and limped across the line. She attempted practice jumps in the second event of the heptathlon, the high jump, before withdrawing.
