Introduction

Welcome to TweakExplorer, the favorite utility to tweak your Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT Explorer. This tool is currently beta, so everything in this documentation and in the programm is subject to change without notice.

Features

TweakExplorer makes your daily work with the Windows Explorer more easy. Currently, it features:

• Restarting the explorer with restauration of the Traybar
• Terminating an application via hotkey (and when we say "terminate", we mean it :)
• Disabling Alt-Tab, Ctrl-Alt-Del and the Windows key

Installation

• Unzip the TweakExplorer.zip file to a temporary folder
• Execute setup.exe

Using TweakExplorer

When TweakExplorer starts up, it shows a little dialog box for 5 seconds providing information for the hotkeys. TweakExplorer is fully "hotkey" driven, that means that every function can only be accessed by a hotkey. This is the dialog box:



As you see, there are 4 hotkeys:

• Ctrl+Alt+F12 terminates TweakExplorer
• Ctrl+Alt+F3 terminates the currently active process. Now one could say: Alt+F4 does exactly the same, but that isn't true! We "terminate" the process, so it is very usable with stuck processes or if you want to get rid of the all dialogboxes the program would otherwise show.
• Ctrl+Alt+Ins is the most important feature of TweakExplorer. It is the only tool that can restart the explorer and restore the TrayBar. It shuts down every program that is currently running and then gracefully restarts the explorer. Explorer is then restarting all autostart-applications and so you have your TrayBar back. In most cases, you will use this utility to restart the explorer when it just crashed and left you with an empty TrayBar. Happy Restarting! :)
• Ctrl+Alt+F11 configures the program. This dialogbox appears:
  
  
  
  
  As you can see, you can configure several features of TweakExplorer. With the first checkbox, you can (de)activate the program termination feature. With the second one you can (de)activate the Shell-restart feature and with the last one you can disable Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+Del and the Windows Key.
