on 4th Street (downtown)
between Mission and Howard for some event planning and coverage, a
little nosh and, of course,
refreshing adult beverages! Thanks!

EDUCATION SEMINAR: WOMAN WARRIOR/WOMAN CHIEF:
TWO-SPIRIT WOMEN AND
THEIR SISTERS
Will Roscoe presents 'Woman Warrior/Woman Chief: Two-Spirit Women and
Their Sisters,' a
slide-lecture on Native American women warriors and chiefs at the Jon
Sims Center for the
Performing Arts, 1519 Mission Street (near S. Van Ness).
Although Europeans stereotyped Native American women as dominated by
men, they were in
fact more independent and powerful than women at any level of European
society. Throughout North
America, Native women became chiefs, warriors, and shamans. Some, like
Weetamo of the
Wampanoags and Lozen of the Apache were prominent leaders in native
resistance. Others, like the
Kutenai Q‡nqon-k‡mek-klaœlha, served as mediators and ambassadors.
In the far west, women who
lived like men as a result of visions or dreams often married other
women. This lecture presents the
results of over 15 years of research into Native two-spirit traditions.
Illustrated with over 100 slides,
it explores the life and times of woman warriors and chiefs over the
course of four centuries.
Will Roscoe, Ph.D., is the author of The Zuni Man-Woman and Changing
Ones: Third and Fourth
Genders in Native North America, and the editor of Living the Spirit:
A Gay American Indian Anthology.
Suggested donation is $3 - $5. Call (415) 337-5409 for more information.

END OF MONTH SOCIAL - ELECTIONS AND AWARDS
NIGHT!
This is one of the most important Socials of our fiscal year, and it's
vital for you to be there.
Tonight we'll be tabulating votes for the new ExCom members who will
represent and guide TGSF
into the new millennium. Held at our usual venue the Blue Muse, located
at 409 Gough Street in San
Francisco. On top of casting ballots and announcing the winners, each
of the outgoing officers of
ExCom will be presenting their annual awards to those members who best
exemplified the spirit of
volunteerism and dedication to the betterment of TGSF.
