TransGender San Francisco was created in 1982 and became a
501 (c)3 non-profit organization in 1994.
Based in San Francisco, it was established to provide support services
for transgender people and educational materials to the transgender community
and to the general public. In addition, TGSF provides safe settings for
transgender people to meet, hold discussions and attend educational seminars
on issues of importance to their community.
TGSF has a membership in excess of 450 members and is the largest single
chapter transgender organization in the world.
TGSF has a variety of programs and activities including:

Monthly socials - Regularly scheduled monthly
events help to give transgender people a safe place to meet and discuss
issues of importance to their community.

Annual Cotillion - Our own beauty pageant,
a major event held in January event in which a portion of proceeds are
distributed to Project Open Hand.

Libraries - TGSF maintains an extensive
book, article, video and audio lending library on transgender topics.

Monthly Educational Seminars - Held
in a central San Francisco location, seminars are on topics of interest
to transgender people, their families and the general public.

Telephone Hotline - Trained members
operate a telephone line for people who need further information about
TGSF and its services.

Public relations/ Anti-defamation Program -
A designated person is responsible for dessiminating accurate information
to the news media and to handle media requests for interviews and information.

Newsletter - Produced monthly and contains
many news and informational articles about the community. Distributed to
all members and to people interest in news about the Bay Area transgender
community.

Speakers Bureau - Trained members make
presentations to professional associations, community groups, colleges
and the like on topics concerning transvestism, transexualism and the transgender
community.
