Values and Types

Types describe values. All places where values are stored, passed, or operated upon have a type, e.g. all variables, parameters, evaluation stack locations, and method results. The type defines the allowable values and the allowable operations supported by the values of the type. All operators and functions have expected types for each of the values accessed or used. Let’s use the notation v:T to indicate a value v is of type T.

A value can be of more than one type. A value that supports many interfaces is an example of a value that is of more than one type, as is a value that inherits from another.
