Adding Descriptors to Images

It is a good habit to supply textual information for each image, by adding any number of "descriptors" in various classes. This allows the StudioLine search engine to locate and group images matching a common theme. The information can also be used to supply headlines and captions on slide shows and web galleries.

A common descriptor is the "image name". StudioLine automatically supplies the original name of the imported picture and displays it as a caption under the thumbnail.

To view the descriptors for a particular image, click its thumbnail caption, or click the right mouse-button on a picture and select "Descriptors" from the context menu.

A panel below the thumbnail shows the name of the current descriptor and provides an input field where you can enter or edit the textual information. Click the button with the white arrow to view other descriptors or to add your own.

The following classes of descriptors are provided with StudioLine:

User Descriptors

These are descriptors created by you. You may add and delete descriptors at will.

System Descriptors

These descriptors were created by StudioLine during installation, e.g., the image name.

Digicam Descriptors

Modern digital cameras will record various properties with each image, e.g. camera model, exposure, f-stops, etc. These properties are stored in exchangeable image file format ("EXIF").

IPTC/NAA Descriptors

These are descriptors following the standards of the International Press Telecommunication Council and the Newspaper Association of America.

Further information to image descriptors may be found in the chapter "Descriptors" .
