  • Completion of a Special Environmental Study for the Dadia-Soufli Birds of Prey Reserve. This will form the basis of a presidential decree for long-term legal protection of the area.
  • Completion of a preparatory study for the rehabilitation and reflooding of the Drana lagoon in the Evros delta.
  • Data collection and GIS mapping of Brown Bear habitats in the Pindus and Rhodope mountains within the framework of the ARCTOS project.
  • Initiation of a coastal fisheries survey in Zakynthos which will provide the basis for management of this resource for the benefit of fishermen and seals.
  • A boost to the campaign to purchase Sekania. This involved the active participation of child scouts and appeals on television children shows.
  • Successful local support in Prespa. An indication of this was the request for two new information centres in Psarades and Vrondero villages. The Pelican colonies in the park also continued to breed successfully, with 1995's population exceeding the highest ever recorded for the Dalmatian Pelican at one site.
  • Adoption of the model provided by WWF's Red Alert System by Greece in its forthcoming plan to establish management bodies at eight important Ramsar wetlands.
  • Completion and dissemination of Environmental Education material for primary school teachers and children. This is the first time a comprehensive curriculum for formal education has been provided on this subject in the country.
  • Court ruling in favour of "Freedom of Information" rights guaranteed by the European Union in the case of Acheloos.
