TARGET SUSTAINABLE USE
Sustainable use of renewable resources is a feasible objective for the Arctic. In this region of the world the number and types of
exploited species and their habitats are few enough in number for sustainable management to be practical. Additionally, resource-use
practices are comparable around the globe in the Arctic.
WWF wants to identify species of special concern and to make the harvesting of all commercial and non-commercial species used in the
Arctic sustainable by the year 2010. WWF would like to see the Arctic as the first global region where the term "sustainable use" goes
beyond the phrase and puts the concept into practice.
