The Biebrza Valley in Poland is a vast wetland of 100.000 ha. through which meander leisurely rivers in a landscape that was inaccessable for thousands of years. It is still very rich in its communities of plants and animals. The Biebrza Valley is one of hte few breeding sites of the white-winged black tern and a stronghold of the aquatic warbler. This is a place where man is part of the ecosystem, not its ruler. Here we find a rich variety of animals, exciting birds like the short-toed eagle and the black stork as well as large mammals like wolf and elk. This book brings the special value of this little known and remote area to public attention by artwork made by 32 artists from 16 countries. |
