DISTRIBUTION

In the nineteenth century the two subspecies occupied widely separated areas. The Northern White Rhino occurred in southern Chad, the Central African Republic, southwestern Sudan, northeastern Zaïre and northwestern Uganda.10 This subspecies is now confined to the Garamba National Park in Zaïre. The Southern White Rhino was found throughout southeastern Angola, southwestern Zambia, central and southern Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, eastern Namibia and northern an d eastern South Africa. This subspecies is now mainly confined to south-east South Africa.7,8

Range States: South Africa; Zaïre; Kenya (introduced); Botswana (reintroduced); Namibia (reintroduced); Swaziland (reintroduced); Zambia (ex?); Zimbabwe (reintroduced).
