INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

The Indira Gandhi Conservation Monitoring Centre (IGCMC) was launched in May 1994 in New Delhi to serve as a National Information Centre on India's biological resources and on the state of management of the country's land, water and forests. Its mission: to support biodiversity and natural resources conservation in India through collecting, managing, and disseminating information. The centre also makes accessible relevant data and technical services.

The IGCMC is working on developing a national database for the protected areas in the country. It has also assisted the Ministry of Environment and Forests in the preparation of the PPF Mission of the World Bank relating to eco-development projects in and around eight national parks in the country.
