streets of finland Besides the commendable work it has done within the country, WWF-Finland has also taken active interest in conservation efforts overseas. The organization is funding several projects in the neighbouring Baltic areas and the St Petersburg region of Russia.

WWF-Finland has also been involved in preparing the National Programme for Nature Conservation Areas in Estonia; in research work in Karelia, Russia; and in drawing up plans for nature conservation in the St Petersburg region. In these projects, the organization has been working in close cooperation with, respectively, the Estonian Fund for Nature, the Karelian Scientific Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Science, and the University of St Petersburg.

The organization has been funding projects in developing countries as well. These include the conservation of medicinal plants in Sri Lanka, development of the rural environment in Namibia and Tanzania, and environmental education programmes in Pakistan and Madagascar. The money for these projects has been channelled through WWF International.

WWF-Finland has also taken upon itself the task of following up on all international agreements and conventions signed and ratified by Finland. It, moreover, participates in the preparation of laws and acts related to the environment and is involved in consultations with the authorities.
