COMMUNICATIONS

WWF-Belgium publishes various magazines for its members :

  • PANDA Magazine appears three times a year : each issue is dedicated to a specific subject. For example : War and peace for the whales; The Future of our temperate forests; Air pollution : our earth is breathless; ...

  • PANDA Press also appears three times yearly (alternately with the PANDA Magazine). It is more an information paper, with up-to-date reports on on-going projects.

  • PANDA Junior is a bi-montly magazine specifically designed and published for the 'Junior' members (under 13 years of age) of WWF.

WWF-Belgium enjoys very good contacts with the Belgian media (press, radio, TV), and produces a fair amount of information for their specific use on wildlife conservation, environmental issues, and of course WWF's projects in Belgium and worldwide.

Specific awareness campaigns are aimed at particular target groups, for example the 'Timber and Forests' campaign for which special communication tools were developed for timber consumers and professionals, as well as a media campaign for the general public with TV and radio spots.

On a regular basis, WWF-Belgium launches general public awareness campaigns on specific subjects linked to an event such as, in 1995, the European Year of Nature Conservation. The WWF campaign aimed at encouraging people to grow indigenous trees and plants in their backyard, on their balcony and so on, with a series of tools such as a leaflet, organized nature walks, and public campaigns ...

Other examples : on the occasion of the release of the movie 'Free Willy' in Belgium, WWF organized an awareness campaign on the various dangers which put marine mammals and their ecosystems at risk, with a special educative poster mailed to all the schools in Belgium, special publications and movie-premieres.
