WWFÕs Annual Conference in Berlin last October was the occasion for the outgoing International President, HRH Prince Philip, to make his formal farewell to the organization. A reminder that Òraising funds will remain the first priority as long as WWF exis tsÓ was the keynote of his valedictory speech.

Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands also attended the ÒfamilyÓ dinner for representatives of the National and Associate Organizations and of the Programme Offices. It was held, appropriately, in BerlinÕs Natural History Museum, where the skeleton of a dino saur graced the scene.

The Duke of Edinburgh Conservation Medal, WWFÕs highest award, was presented to Professor Dr Ernst Ulrich von Weizsacker, pioneer of conservation science and President of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.

Following the successful worldwide launch of the WWF Living Planet Campaign on 1 October 1996, the Conference discussed how best to reach the Campaign goals:

Conserve Endangered Spaces
Save Endangered Species
Change Global Markets that threaten the Living Planet.
