Background
At the end of 1995 WWF Austria started to organise a buyers' group in Austria. The WWF Group '98 was founded and presented in a press conference in Vienna on 4 June 1996 with 15 members.

The goal of the WWF Group '98 is to install a working and permanently growing market for certified timber and timber products including paper.

The members are committed to find out where their timber and timber products come from within one year after becoming a member and to prepare themselves to trade with certified products The target is to trade an increasing number of FSC certified timber and timber products by 1998. Two members are already offering certified products for sale.

The Austrian timber industry depends very strongly on the export of timber and timber products and therefore the WWF Group '98 works together with the Buyers' Groups in Germany and Switzerland whenever possible.
