WWF INVOLVEMENT IN CAMEROON

WF's first projects began in Cameroon in 1961. Among these was the award of scholarships to the Garoua Wildlife Management School, one of the best of its kind in Africa, for which WWF helped raise funds. In 1975, a project to study and protect gorillas was launched. During the same period, several Wildlife Clubs were created in high schools throughout the country. For over three decades, WWF has been present in Cameroon helping, directing and advising the government as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in their conservation efforts.

By the end of 1995, it had completed over 45 projects in Cameroon, with financial support amounting to CHF 1,693,000 million. Apart from project development and supervision, WWF continues to advise the government on conservation matters, and works closely with the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
