Prespa, Greece
Prespa, in northern Greece, is where we find Jorgos and Mersini - a
husband and wife team of biologists who are determined to save the lake's
endangered pelicans and their beautiful village that lies on its shores.
Together they have helped the residents of this little town just 10km from
the Albanian border to value their ancient traditions over 20th-century
shortcuts, and to change the way they fish in order to protect the lake's
bird populations. Prespa Lake is the largest breeding ground for 36 of
Europe's 38 birds of prey.
