The Asia/Pacific Programme

The Asia/Pacific Programme

he Asia/Pacific region encompasses an area stretching from Pakistan in the west to the islands of the South Pacific in the east, and from Japan in the north to New Zealand in the south. It includes China, but not Mongolia or the countries within the former Soviet Union.

The region contains a spectacular variety of habitats - ranging from the world's highest mountain to the world's deepest ocean - and a stunning diversity of plants and animals. It is also home to more than half the world's people, who between them speak over 2,000 languages. WWF's principal aim is to conserve the region's rich diversity - biological and cultural - which is increasingly threatened by rapid agricultural, industrial, and urban expansion.

The programme covers the work of seven National Organizations, located in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Pakistan. WWF also runs conservation programmes in Bhutan, China, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, and the South Pacific.
