International Public Relations and Communications Officer

The Cameroon Programme Office (CPO) of WWF - World Wide Fund for Nature - is presently operating 25 conservation projects, focusing on forests, species and wetlands, with the aim of improving sustainable management of natural resources and socio-economic development. The various projects vary in character from studies and project development to integrated conservation and development, awareness, capacity building and policy development projects. WWF-CPO is currently undergoing significant expansion as a result of which it is seeking candidates for the following upcoming positions. WWF-CPO is seeking an International Public Relations and Communications Officer to assist the Senior Programme Management in reinforcing its external relations strategy and, in particular, to support and strengthen its relations with the WWF Network. The post is to be based in Yaounde. The contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.

Duties:

  • assist the Senior Programme Management in developing and implementing marketing programmes to support external relations strategy and international fundraising efforts;
  • develop relationships with the WWF Network and other international partners to identify marketing strategies and provide them with relevant information necessary for marketing, lobbying, fundraising and informing a large audience;
  • in close cooperation with the Communications Officer, ensure the production of well-targeted promotional materials, both in English and French (annual review, web-site, news releases, etc.);
  • ensure coordination of international and national public relations activities with the Communications Officer.

Requires:

  • advanced degree in a relevant field and minimum five years experience in journalism and/or communications, preferably with a previous experience in fundraising;
  • outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
  • proficiency in English and French (additional language knowledge, i.e. Dutch would be an advantage);
  • familiarity with conservation issues;
  • computer-literacy and knowledge of desk-top publishing;
  • willingness and ability to travel frequently in the country and abroad.
