CAPACITY BUILDING
One of the programme's most important tasks is to equip people
such as government officers, scientists, and environmental planners
with the knowledge and expertise they need to plan and run successful
conservation initiatives.
With this in mind, WWF has helped fund a series of training courses
and workshops run by the Asian Wetland Bureau, provides support
to conservation organizations such as the Village Development
Trust in Papua New Guinea, and gives grants to Bhutanese conservationists
so that they can pursue further studies. It has also helped train
government officers in China in survey techniques, nature reserve
management, and the use of computers to manage natural resources.
" As our natural heritage shrinks, the value of saving pristine
environments rises."
