What You Can Do

protection of the arctic environment

Located in the northernmost part of the planet, Lapland is exposed to severe extremities of climate: long, cold winters and short, intense summers. These climatic conditions make the Arctic environment extremely sensitive and vulnerable. Even an insignificant disturbance in a temperate climate can prove fatal to the flora and fauna of the region. Uncontrolled tourism, excessive reindeer farming, or any kind of air pollution can have an effect that is not easily reversible.

Much damage has already been done. The fallout of pollution and other harmful practices has started becoming evident though it is still too early to assess the extent of the long-term damage to the region. Various Nordic WWF National Organizations are working together to find means to protect the precious Arctic environment. They have begun several salvage operations besides undertaking protection and preventive measures.
