POLLUTION CONTROL

The Pollution Control and Monitoring Programme was initiated in 1991 with the objective of establishing a network of public interest laboratories that would undertake monitoring of water quality, air quality, soil degradation and major sources of pollution such as industrial effluent and sewage. The programme involves voluntary agencies, social action groups, trade unions and other NGOs in creating environmental awareness and playing an active role in fighting pollution.

The Pollution Monitoring Division has developed a Low Cost Water Pollution Monitoring Kit which has been supplied to various organizations including the World Bank, the Central Pollution Control Board, WWF regional offices, universities and NGOs.
