Two subspecies have been described: the Sumatran Orang-utan, Pongo pygmaeus abelii and the Bornean Orang-utan, Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus. Weighing up to 90 kg, the orang-utan is the largest tree-living mammal and the only great ape in Asia.
