  Background
the product process WWF research has shown that the international timber trade is the largest threat to the world's forests richest in wildlife. WWF, with an array of other environmental organisations, timber traders, indigenous people's representatives, foresters and retailers have worked to establish a system of independent certification of forests. The objective is to improve forest management and help make a bridge to the increasingly sceptical consumer.

What is the FSC?
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation founded in 1993. The FSC supports environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world's forests. Its main activity is to accredit organisations which certify the quality of forest management. Forest products derived from forests certified within the framework provided by the FSC are allowed to carry the FSC registered trademark.

Wherever you see the FSC trademark, for instance on a new door in a DIY store, you can be assured that it has come from a well-managed, forest source.
