MODIFIED DEER AND SMALL MAMMAL FENCE

Recommended for low to moderate deer pressure on small acreages.

A modification of the 3-strand fence has been used where control of raccoons, woodchucks, and rabbits is also needed. This fence consists of 2 outer wires as descibed above with an inner 5-strand, 38 to 42-inch high fence placed 36 inches inside the outer wires. The 3 lower wires of the 5-strand fence are spaced at 5 to 6-inch intervals from the ground to a maximum of 18 inches, the remaining 2 wires are placed at 10 to 12-inch intervals above the third wire. This fence is effective in controlling multiple animal problems on small fruit, vegetable, or small orchard and vineyard sites. Again, where extensive acreages are involved or deer pressures are high, a more elaborate design will be required.
