Computer Systems Administrator Intern
The Internet Society’s International Secretariat, the international organization
for global cooperation and coordination for the
Internet and its internetworking technologies and applications, has an immediate
requirement for a
part-time on-site Computer Systems Administrator
for its Reston, Virginia, USA, headquarters office.
This could develop into a full-time summer internship.
We offer a friendly, small (but growing) office environment working for a
prestigious Internet organization with a global,
international focus.
Applicants should have some college experience and be working
toward a B.S. in CS, EE, or a related field and have
some experience administering PCs in a distributed networked
environment, using WFW, Windows 95 and NT. Working
knowledge of the Internet, WWW and web site development a plus.
Responsibilities to include the following:
- Installation, and maintenance of hardware and software which
supports the internal staff, including these systems:
- Desktop PCs and Application Suites
- PC Printers, Tape Drives, Modems, and other peripherals
- Laptops for Mobile Employees
- Voicemail System
- Databases for membership, conferences, etc.
- The design, development and test duties to include those tasks which are
done once or infrequently, in order to incorporate or remove functionality
from the desktop systems. As applied to desktop systems, these include:
- Upgrading PCs and Applications
- Special projects in support of all Internet Society activities
- Maintenance activities are performed regularly for normal system upkeep,
to include:
- Internal "Help Desk" - Providing staff with hardware and software assistance
- Performing Backups and Routine Security Audits, Virus Checks, etc.
