If you are running on Win NT/95 and your HTTP proxy cannot be found by the tuner, make sure you specify a host name and not an IP number for your proxy. The reason is that there is a bug in Java on PCs which doesn't allow connections to hosts that are specified by IP addresses. This works fine on Solaris and hopefully will be fixed in the next release of Java for the PC.
On Solaris it is possible, but on the PC specifying an numeric IP address does not work. This is a bug in Java and we hope it will be fixed in the JDK1.1. For now you will have to enter a legal host name. Note: JDK 1.0.2 on the PC will not accept IP address in dotted decimal notation.
Yes, but there are guidelines to follow:
If you have connection problems, insure that in the network control panel you have DNS turned off for the TCP->Dialup Adapter entry. You can do this by double-clicking this entry and then selecting the "DNS" tab. Then check "Disable DNS" and hit apply.
Unfortunately not. We hope to support SOCKS in the future. This depends on SOCKS support in the JDK1.1.
Right click on your Windows Task Bar, choose "Properties" and view "Start Menu Programs." Then remove "Castanet Tuner" from "Startup."
The tuner will automatically ask to be updated once every week. You can skip that update, but you can also update more frequently by selecting "Update Tuner" from the Tuner menu.
If you have installed something into your registry which attempts to make your Win95 short filenames look nicer by removing the "~" from the name when possible, then you will run into problems trying to update your tuner. To fix you must edit your registry and remove the binary value named NameNumericTail. To do this, go to the Start menu and select Run, and type the program name "regedit". Under the top level "My Computer", walk down the tree through the following entries, until you find the entry called "NameNumericTail". If you remove this you should be able to update the tuner.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE System CurrentControlSet control FileSystem NameNumericTail
Remove the entry called "NameNumericTail", restart your computer, and re-install the Castanet Tuner from the InstallShield files. Updates should work at that point.
Note: Norton Utilities 2.0 gives you the option of changing how the short version of the files are named.
An error like this (the error code number may vary) usually means that you are configured to use an HTTP proxy that Marimba doesn't support. Right now the only proxy we seem to be having trouble with is the Gauntlet firewall proxy, and ones which are derived from that one. We are working hard to get a fix for this problem.
Channels are stored in the .marimba directory, which is located in
However, a user may install Windows or Windows NT and give a different name for the Windows (or WINNT) directory, in which case the .marimba directory will be there instead.
