Color Models

With Xara Webster, you can edit colors using one of two color models, HSV and RGB. A color model is a way of describing color and different people have different preferences in how they like to do it. To change the color model, right-click on the Color Editor.

The HSV Color Model

With the HSV (Hue Saturation Value) color model you can choose your colors from the screen just like using a paint palette. First, you choose the hue of the color (red, green, etc) from the colored strip along the bottom of the Color Editor (this strip represents the edge of a circle which is why the ends are the same color). Once you have chosen the hue, you can set the saturation (amount of white) and value (amount of black) by moving the marker on the square panel. This panel shows all the possible settings for the saturation and value for the hue you have chosen. When you drag the marker, you can lock it so it only moves horizontally or vertically by holding down the CTRL key. You can also alter the Hue (0-360 degrees), Saturation (0-100%) and the Value (0-100%) by typing values into the fields at the bottom of the Color Editor. If you want to enter numbers as 0-255 values, add a 'd' after the number, e.g. 235d.

The RGB Color Model

RGB (Red Green Blue) is the color model used by computers to display images on the screen. The color is created by mixing red, green and blue together. To change the color of some text or clipart using the RGB color model, you just drag the three bars in the Color Editor which set the levels for the red, green and blue. You can also alter the values (0-100%) by typing into the fields at the bottom of the Color Editor. If you want to enter numbers as 0-255 values, add a 'd' after the number, e.g. 235d.

Clipart Using Connected Colors

Some of the Xara Webster clipart uses connected colors which means that you can use the Color Editor to change one color to change a whole set of colors in the drawing. So, for example, if you load a button picture, the button might have been drawn using connected colors so you can change the color of the whole button and the text on it without having to change the individual parts of the drawing by hand.
