FAQ's:

Q: I have installed IW2000 but I cannot see any change in the Web pages. Apparently they haven't been filtered.
A: Maybe you have chosen an incorrect option under 'Proxy Setup' or your browser has not been properly configurated.
For more information please read the Configuration.

Q: The configuration was right but it still doesn't filter.
A: AOL users: Please make sure that you have indicated IW2000 the right Proxy server and the right port. You should have introduced ´www.proxy.aol.com´ for the Proxy server and ´80´ for the port.
A: T-Online users: Please make sure that you have indicated to IW2000 the right Proxy server and the right port. You should have introduced ´www-proxy.btx.dtag.de´ for the Proxy server and ´80´ for the port.
A: AOL and T-Online users: Please start T-Online software, then Internet Watcher 2000 and finally the browser.
A: You may be using the browser of an Internet provider (i.e. T-Online) with a fixed configuration. The test page will allow you to check your browser.

Q: What do the entries ´localhost´ or ´127.0.0.1´ and port ´8080´ mean, which can be found in the field HTTP of the browser?
A: ´Localhost´ and ´127.0.0.1´ mean that it is not an external server but the PC itself. ´8080´ is the port in which IW2000 has been installed and which processes the HTTP data transfer to the Internet.

Q: What is actually a 'Proxy' server?
A: A ´Proxy´ is broadly speaking a software that acts as a gateway between the computer and the Internet. A ´Proxy server´ is simply the computer that runs such a program.

Q: I have installed IW2000 and I have the feeling that the web pages takes even longer for loading.
A: Please verify the settings for the Proxy. Have you introduced the right port number? Some Proxy servers are slower in port ´80´ than in port ´81´.

Q: Does a full automatic installation mode exist?
A: Sure. The only thing you have to do is open the install file with the parameter ´/s´.

Q: I cannot uninstall IW2000, what can I do?
A: T-Online users: Once started, T-Online's software replace the file winsock.dll of the operating system. This can lead to troubles while using other programs. For this reason you need to start the computer again and uninstall IW2000. Please don't start T-Online's software until the deinstallation has been completed.

Functions

Q: How can I define a "White List"?
A: Go to the Redirection Tabulator, insert in the Redirection List the pages that you would like to block and choose for each page the Redirection Method ´Block Matching URL's, do not redirect´. For example, if you would like to block all .com Web-Pages then you only have to insert .com in the Redirection List and choose the Block Redirection-Method. Now if you want to exclude some pages from the block method then insert in the Redirection List the URL to be excluded and choose as Redirection Method ´Don't do anything - pass requests´.

Q: IW2000 loads the advertisements and then makes them invisible, but does this only take place in the browser?
A: No. IW2000 completely eliminates the HTTP connections with the advertisements. This means that the browser does not load any kind of Ad-graphs. That considerably  accelerates at the same time the downloading of the Web sites because it reduces the network width that you need.

Q: I use the IW2000 to eliminate the advertising banners of the Web sites. Nevertheless I would often like to look at a page in its original state. How can I do that?
A: You can deactivate IW2000 at any time with no difficulty at all and then receive the pages in its original format. You only have to click on the  IW2000 tray icon. Then load again the Web site you wanted to look at.

Q: Can I surf faster using IW2000?
A: Sure. IW2000 accelerates the navigation in different ways:

Q: Does IW2000 forward the statistics somewhere else?
A: No. Such data are neither sent nor can they be accessed by other members of the Web. They are just stored in the file iwatcher.ini on your hard disk.

Q: Is the IW2000 a "Trojan horse''?
A: No. Actually IW2000 works like any regular browser, the only difference is that the fied ´user agent´ has been modified. When the browser needs an object from a Web site, such as a text or a graph, it sends a chain of signs to identify the browser (user agent). Some Web sites use such a sign chain in order to show the pages that better match a particular kind of browser. IW2000 doesn't need to modify that chain to identify the browser but adds an additional identification string of IW2000. This ID allows the Webmaster to calculate the percentage of hits at his page that came along with IW2000. If you do not wish the Web sites to be able to identify the IW2000 just activate this function with the option ´Don't Change 'User Agent' Field´.

Q: Can I hide the IW2000 on my desktop?
A: Of course. You only have to activate the options ´Hide splash screen´ and ´Hide Tray Icon´. Close the IW2000 window. The program will still be active and working in the background even if you cannot notice it on the screen. To modify the settings for IW2000 press CTRL+SHIFT+A.

Q: How can I connect several PC's to a Proxy server for IW2000?
A: Please select the register 'Proxy Setup' and then the option 'Allow external access'. In the client's browser you should specify under HTTP the IP adress of the computer where the Proxy server for IW2000 has been installed. In IW2000 you will have to specify the port 'Listening port' (default option is '8080').

Updates

A: Visit our Homepage www.internetwatcher.com. There you can find the last version.

Miscellaneous:

Q: Why does IW2000 count the days gone-by?, does it stop working after 30 days?
A: Yes, the software is temporarily limited. The only goal of this counting is to remind the user of the number of days he has already been using the IW2000.

Q: I have some ideas that I would like to implement in IW2000. Can I write my own plug-ins for IW2000?
A: At the moment we are working on a SDK for IW2000.

Q: Does IW2000 run with Wingate?
A: Sure. But you have to define the port '81' instead of '8080' in the browser and IW2000 ('Listening Port').

Q: Can I configurate IW2000 so that I can specify several providers and switch from one to another?
A: No. You can specify a Proxy address just once and then you will have to change it as you change your provider .
