TV TODAY, a major TV magazine in Germany, is presenting an AD SYSTEM, where the ads are inserted in HexBase® using a Web browser. When inserting an ad, the customer gets an ad number and a password, which he can use for administrating his ad. It is also possible to use the anonymous mode, where the customer gets a "post box" in the database, where the answers are sent to. With the password the user can see how many times his ad has been called, and whether he has any answers to his ad, when he has used the anonymous mode.
The editorial department has full control of the ads, can change the database structure just by using a Web browser, give ads free for public, delete ads, change categories a.s.o.
FOCUS Magazine, the large news magazine in Germany sets new milestones for magazine publishing on the Web. The complete proposal is over 1000 pages large and consists of many "More Value" objects.
One of these is a database for searching the cheapest flight from any german speaking airport to anywhere in the world. There are over 370.000 different flight routes in HexBase, which evaluates and searches the cheapest routes among all airlines.
There are 2 different ways to search, either by typing the country, city or airport in a textfield, the database then returns the appropriate airports to be selected. Then you select the day, month and year and the airport where you want to start from, and then HexBase serves you the flights with pricing and special information.
The other way to search is the geographical search, where you first select the continent, then HexBase gives you all countries in the continent in a scrollbar as an answer. STERN, one of the largest news magazines in Germany, has built up a HexBase solution, which lets you search your favourite TV programs among 32 TV channels. You just make a multiple-level selection of the channels and the timeframe you would like to search. HexBase then makes a search and returns a list of your selected programs.
The unique feature of this solution is, that you can subscribe the program information you have selected free of charge and HexBase then sends the required TV program information per email direct to you. The program is sent weekly. This feature is a show-up of the flexibility of HexBase. The whole solution was constructed in 4 weeks, the TV data is delivered from a Berlin company.
The second largest evening paper in Sweden, circulation over 500.000,00 daily. The Real Estate ads from the saturday special, "Nytt Hem" are published in the Internet using a special solution made with HexBase. The ads come from a Microsoft Access database and are taken over as DBF files by HexBase. This HexBase is running on Sun OS.
Customers can here create multiple-level queries, such as searching for available listings by number of rooms in a house, location and price class. There is a scroll bar, where you can select the part of the City of Stockholm, where you would be interested to live in. There are thousand and thousands of houses of different kinds, flats a.s.o. in the database.
In this second HexBase solution, aftonbladet gives the Internet Surfers the opportunity to sell their computer related stuff. The input of the adss is done by customers using Netscape or other Web browser as a client. After the customer has typed in the ad, he receives a password and a unique ad number. With these keywords, the customer can admin his own ads, delete the ad after his stuff was sold, or continue having the in the Database. He can also check, how many times his ad has been called by other users.
In this HexBase solution, it is also possible to publish ads as an anonymous person. When calling the ad details, the customer gets a dialog, that tells to send a message to the ad owner. The ad owner can then with his admin feature pick up the messages from the database.
For the newspaper, there are a lot of admin functions: e.g. the new ads are not published in the Internet, before the editoriel staff has approved them. It is even possible to ad new database categories just using a Web browser!
The two Media companies, MediaHouse and IDG Interactive decided to make a competition for the best HomePage in Sweden. HexBase was decided to be used as platform, due to its flexible formatting and query features.
Anybody in Sweden can take part of the competition by filling a form in their Web browser, filling in all the details of their Web Site, email adress, domain adress, art director a.s.o. This information is saved in the database and is searchable by category or full text. HexBase returns a list of all details and links.
