Operating System Components This demo requires DirectX 7 and Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you have a newer computer, you might already have these. If not, you may need to install them manually. DirectX 7 DirectX is a Microsoft technology used by video games to access your computer's hardware. Gearhead Garage will not work without DirectX version 7.0 or newer. You can find out which version of DirectX you have by clicking Start, Settings, Control Panel, DirectX. Periodically Microsoft releases new versions of the DirectX drivers which you can download for free on the internet: http://www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/default.asp http://www.microsoft.com/directx The installer for DirectX is called "dx70eng.exe". If it was included with your Gearhead Garage Demo, you can install it manually without visiting the above web sites. Note: DirectX 7 requires additional disk space, and cannot be uninstalled. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 Microsoft Internet Explorer is a "web browser", i.e. a program for viewing web pages. You probably already have a web browser installed on your computer. (How are you reading these help files?) Although these help files look best when viewed with the latest version of Internet Explorer, that's not the real reason you want to upgrade. The real reason is that installing Internet Explorer also updates numerous Windows operating system components used by Gearhead Garage. If you have internet access, you can upgrade just these components without installing Internet Explorer by going to this web site: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ Otherwise, you should install Internet Explorer. If it was not included with your Gearhead Garage Demo, you can download it from s web site:
